If you're one of the people who doesn't like Crystal Garden shows clogging up the 2017 page, you'll like the new feature on year pages.

Lying in the Hands of God from 5.18.18 had a 'Bourbans and Lacs' by Master P interpolation in the outro. It's going on at the same time during the American Baby Intro interpolation.

Why in the 2018 Summer tour Personnel info slot for each show does the column include Stefan, Dave and Carter? Is it a placeholder until maybe Boyd returns? Usually that space is just reserved for players other than the main guys.

We've been debating how to do personnel for a long time. Do we just do guests? do we keep putting Jeff, Tim & Rashawn? Should we just put everyone especially now with no Leroi or Boyd...

Maybe this will stick, maybe it won't. It's seems there's more cause to list everyone playing now than there has been before.

It's tricky, but I'd do "Buddy, Jeff, Rashawn, Tim."

That stays true to only listing "touring members" and not core members.

Plus, leaving it the way it was makes the page less busy.

I personally think the new personnel changes are just fine.

This started as a conversation about whether we should stop listing Jeff, Tim, and Rashawn as guests since they have stopped calling them "touring members" or "special guests." It then turned into when did they stop being special guests/touring members? Since there isn't really a clear answer to that question, we decided that it makes the most sense to just list everyone who's playing on a given song. (This avoids the whole issue of "why is/isn't Jeff considered an official member?" which I've always thought is a pretty stupid thing to care about.)

The following people only show their first name (to save space and eliminate as much clutter as reasonably possible) and are always listed first in the personnel list (to make it easier to see who the true guests are): Dave, Carter, Stefan, LeRoi, Boyd, Peter, Butch, Tim, Rashawn, Jeff, and Buddy.

As Rob said, this makes even more sense now that Boyd is gone too because without this change, we'd be listing more people in the personnel column than we were not listing (i.e., we'd be listing Jeff, Tim, Rashawn, Buddy and not listing Dave, Carter, Stefan). The funny thing is that the last email I have to Matias about this was from Feb 1, which was the day before Boyd quit. This came back up yesterday, though, because someone tweeted us asking whether Boyd was still playing with the band—without listing everyone who's playing, there would have been no way to tell that Boyd hasn't been at the last few shows just from looking at the show pages.

Another (admittedly small) problem this change fixes is that when a "guest" plays something by himself (let's say a Robert Randolph intro that's tracked separately or a Tim solo tease of a random song) it's clear that it's just that one person playing and not DMB + that guest.

(When I get home, I'll post the info I found when I was researching how Jeff, Tim, etc. have been officially labeled over the past several years. It's kind of interesting/confusing.)

EDIT: FYI, this will be applied retroactively to all previous full-band shows. I've done 1991 and pre-Boyd 1992 manually, and the rest of 1992–2017 should be coming before too long.

EDIT: Here you go:
Quote:
Until mid-2012, the website called Jeff, Tim, and Rashawn "touring band" members.

From 2012–2016, the website didn't explicitly call them anything but listed them separately (with a | separating them from the other members - see attached screenshot).

The 2017 version of the website makes no distinction.

Studio and live releases with Tim, Rashawn, and Jeff (or LeRoi) that were released from 2008 to mid-2013 list them as "special guests" or "with." This covers Big Whiskey and AFTW as well as live shows recorded from 2008–2011. The Warehouse discs released in this time frame (Warehouse 8 vols. 4–8 and Warehouse 10 vol. 1) list them as "playing on" specific songs (interestingly, the ones released after Roi's death list him as "playing on" specific songs as well).

Live releases with them that were released since mid-2013 make no distinction. This covers live shows recorded from 2009–2015. The Warehouse discs released in this time frame (Warehouse 10 vols. 2–5) do not list personnel at all.
