I work on a campus (frankly at a school that has a lot of students that are coming from difficult backgrounds) - a campus that also allows conceal carry. Yesterday was also the 10 year anniversary of the Northern Illinois University shooting. One of my best friends was badly wounded, but survived that. Also the mod here, Mike, covered it for the school paper/tv at the time when he was a student there. He had a thoughtful Facebook post up yesterday looking back on it all.

I'm not even for an all out gun ban - I think there can be a reasonable accommodation for some. But, we need some serious gun overhaul and I have zero faith anything is going to change.

Across the board? No that will not happen, but in terms of state laws, Florida definitely needs tighter restrictions. Also reading this morning that apparently the police were called to that kid's home almost 40 times in 8 years. Definitely not a stable household.

While I agree that some kind of gun control should be in the conversation, being called to that household 8 times a year, observing his love for and obvious lack of respect for weapons, and acknowledging his expulsion and subsequent removal from campus wasn’t enough for law enforcement to get the jump on this guy? That is fucking ridiculous. It’s not like he came out of nowhere.

The FBI was contacted. He was a known problem and lover of weapons. His house was veritably unstable. He had a reason to be upset. He was removed from campus with a bag after being expelled. He was known to be violent. Aside from posting "I'm going to shoot up the school" on social media, this guy handed the answers in ahead of time. How much more warning do you really need?

Yea, the FBI dropped the ball big time on this one.

I also agree with Mitch. If the Sandy Hook massacre didn't change anything, then we are fucked.

Alex Jones interviewed one of the kids from the high school and said that the "Secret Service" (probably different feds) was there a month earlier teaching the faculty how to deal with emergency situations. Now, I went to a high school with just as many students and we never had Feds in our school doing disaster training. I think they knew about this possibility for quite a long time.

Our president is absolutely disgusting for making this horrible tragedy about himself. Pitiful excuse for a human being.

I hate that we have to take collective ownership of this trainwreck. "Our" president.

I thought that exact same thing. The history books better portray him exactly as he is: an ignorant piece of corn in pigshit with absolutely NO understanding of reality.

History will not be kind to Trump.

I am also curious how this presidency alters the perception we have of other presidents - like George W Bush.

Trump’s presidency will be defined by a debt crisis and maybe North Korea

this is great news. The youth should be standing up for their rights and not let the government walk all over them.

Or let the government let other people walk all over them.
