2020 Summer COVID-19 Tour Date Discussion

Not counting the Caravans, I've seen a few amazing openers: The Meters, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, North Mississippi Allstars, Norah Jones, My Morning Jacket, Ben Harper, Blue Merle, Soulive, The Wailers, Umphrey's McGee, The Black Crowes, The Hold Steady, Donavon Frankenreiter, Jason Mraz, Zac Brown Band, Gary Clark, Jr., Punch Brothers, the Head and the Heart, Kool & the Gang, moe.

Yea that's a really nice list Theme.

Although I can't imagine The Hold Steady playing to a half empty shed in the daylight They're one of my favorite bands and that's probably the least ideal setting to be introduced to them.

It was so strange, I saw them at a dive bar just north of Scranton in April of that year, then a few months later, at a half-empty, daylight filled Star Lake Amphitheater outside of Pittsburgh. They did their best, there.

Solid list.

Even those artists and bands who I didn't end up enjoying were still worth checking out. You never know what great act you'll stumble upon ya know? Randalls '06 was kind of a "dream team" of openers with Govt. Mule, Flecktones and David Gray. Speaking of Gray I remember he was supposed to open Hartford '00 and my buddy was really psyched but I had no idea who he was at the time. But something happened and he canceled and The Getaway People opened and I thought they were fantastic and I really dug them for a long time after that weekend. My first show Soul Coughing opened and I was absolutely floored and hooked. They were so fucking unique and unapologetic with their sound, I fell in love with their music, and of course followed Doughty's career ever since up to now. And seeing for the first time The Flecktones live in 1997 and that beautiful marriage of Flecktone sound weaving through DMB's music was something I will never forget, especially the band's real-time reaction to everything on stage.

For a long time I could not get the image out of my head of her just rolling around on the stage in Foxboro '01, and then swearing at the crowd because literally no one cared.

I may do Gorge this year and then officially close the book on DMB. I’ve only seen them at one stop over the last four years, Colorado last year, and I’m not “trying” to sound negative when I say they were borderline unlistenable between their wall of sound and Dave’s odd vocal delivery.

They still show flashes here and there, but for me it’s nothing remotely close to putting a lot of effort and money into hoping to see. I’ll probably also finally do the Gorge this year to officially put a nice bow on my DMB fandom before saying goodbye to their shows.

I feel like if I had the ways and means to do it, this is what I'd do as well.

Her band was killer though. I focused more on them during her set - was lucky enough to be 2nd row center at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo.

Looking at the tour calendar makes me think that this is the year to do the Gorge.

Convenient weekend, only have to take Friday off. Etc. And BELA.

I think it's interesting that all through the late 90's and early 2000's I wished the band would play NH in the summer. Now that they are I don't even really want to go since nobody else is going to go to 2 mid-week NH shows. I've only been to 2 out of the 4 Gilford shows and likely won't go to the 2020 ones to make it 2 for 6.

Yet I'll spend $1k+ after it's all said and done to see the band in Las Vegas in a 1 off show in February that will 100% be a festival set. My line of thinking is sometimes.

Syracuse is a nice shed for mid-week, if you can handle the parking. Think early Montage exerience.
