I'm fine with cutting defense. But it's mainly entitlements because of the baby boomer generation retiring. We have millions of people who are going to depend on our broke ass to fund them (read: their their health care) until they die. This is an exploding cost.

tax breaks to companies is effectively the equivalent of pbs, etc. until real tax reform gets done (and i don't think it ever will), work needs to be done on the major issues.

I get that, but what are we to do about the boomer's? They're a burden, but they're the ones who paid into social security all these years and they deserve to be taken care of. Should we abandon them?

Jesus. Yes, I said abandon them. To think that that any legitimate reform to the system will be to abandon those who have already paid in is idiotic.

You need adults who are willing to make tough decisions to change the system for those who are a reasonable distance from retirement. But those changes need to be drastic.

We should means test social security so only people who need it can get it. Everyone else is fucked, even though they paid into it. Let young people opt out of social security. Get rid of obamacare, food stamps, etc is a great way to get started.
