why is that an oxymoron. im more of a rhythm guitar player. i can play any song you want me to and learn it within minutes, and make it my own. for some reason though i just can solo well. i dont know why. i was looking for a little advice and to how to advance that. thanks for the snide remark though.

learn your scales. know them by heart. really really know them. the rest is just singing along to the song with your hands. find your on style. play around with melodies. learn tricks, licks, ect. it takes alot to be good at soloing but it all starts with knowing your scales inside and out. after that you can start learning more and more different licks inside of those scales.

![]() I learned a lot from the King, he uses "space" to solo, it's a really effective tool, especially for blues soloing. It works well with other stylings as well, it gets the listener more prone to have a lick stuck in their head.

taken from dmbtabs. this is a good start to know the key. you can try doing some licks in these keys over the jams to practice.

pretty much what moses said you gotta know the scales, which take a while to really get down.

i'd go with just learning the entire major scale at every position on the fretboard. once you know this pattern within the first 12 frets you can move it up and down depending on what key you want. and when you learn the major scale it includes the notes of the pentatonic scale and one of the minor scales too. i don't know if i said this clearly enough but the main point is that you should learn every note in the scale throughout the entire fretboard.
