This guy behind Trump at another one of his ongoing nonsensical campaign rallies is the best.

Looks like the “far right” “white supremacist” party got 20% of the vote in Sweden. The media just can’t let go

The prime minister called the party “racist” and most media is saying that the party has roots in neo-Nazism

Bloomberg headline: ‘I’m Not a Racist, But...’: Sweden Faces Historic Upset in Election

If this happening in far left Europe...is abolishing ICE a winning strategy?

We live under minority rule in terms of governance.

Isn't this what the Founding Fathers wanted? To keep the opulent few away from the bewildered herd that is the poor?

Indeed, mob rule was a concern of many. I was referencing the Atlantic article that was posted and which I read before. I also read this earlier today which goes after the premise of the previous article.

The founding fathers also lived in a world where women, people who didn't own property and blacks could not vote. A time when the US did not extend beyond the Mississippi and, even then, anything west of the Appalachians was wild frontier...just saying.

I definitely see this and agree (ex. Republican gerrymandering) and I think that is what the Atlantic article is talking about - there are many things that have changed and caused the minority to be able to control and mobilize.

Trump is all about emotions - ex. uses rallies to keep up his fan base
Quote:
Madison and Hamilton believed that Athenian citizens had been swayed by crude and ambitious politicians who had played on their emotions.

The Vox article says there were not a lot of examples given, but right here is one. The internet can be used to educate the masses, but what we have seen over the past two years is something different.
Quote:
But newspapers of the time were also platforms for elites to make thoughtful arguments at length, and Madison believed that the enlightened journalists he called the “literati” would ultimately promote the “commerce of ideas.” He had faith that citizens would take the time to read complicated arguments (including the essays that became The Federalist Papers), allowing levelheaded reason to spread slowly across the new republic.

Quote:
Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms have accelerated public discourse to warp speed, creating virtual versions of the mob. Inflammatory posts based on passion travel farther and faster than arguments based on reason.

Quote:
Trump’s populist promise—“I alone can fix it”—is only the most dramatic in a long history of hyperbolic promises, made by presidents from Wilson to Obama, in order to mobilize their most ideologically extreme voters.

This right here though, is the most important part to me. If we would actually put effort into educating our citizens and putting our teachers on a more respectable profile, then things would be different. 18-25 year olds only vote about 19% in midterms...imagine what it would be if 50% turned out.....
Quote:
The best way of promoting a return to Madisonian principles, however, may be one Madison himself identified: constitutional education.

I took a public speaking course in college. This was Fall Semester 2000.

I gave an "informational" speech on the difference between Bush and Gore's proposed income tax plans.

I dumbed it down with pie charts and a physical demonstration passing out different colored tennis balls to people to show who's in what tax bracket.

The teacher gave me a C for choosing a topic that wasn't relevant to my audience.

(I fought it and eventually got an A and the chair of the department approved my future topic choices.)

"I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!" - The President of the United States.

Doesn't matter. People will still cling to their guns.

True, but a big reason nothing has changed is the NRA can buy politicians and make it so there is zero room to compromise. Theoretically, without them there could be some sensible gun control. However, the NRA accurately represents the desire of a huge portion of American citizens. And as long as Fox news et al make them think dirty libs want to take all their guns and any legislation is the first step, nothing will happen.

Guys, with everything that is going on....

I wake in the morning
And I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
What's going on?
