I'm catching up on some older and current posts here:

Too Much
Bartender
When the World Ends
Halloween [tease]
Grace Is Gone
Grey Street
I Did It
The Stone
Sleep to Dream Her »
Loving Wings
Warehouse
Crush
Everyday

Christmas Song
What You Are

Couple key notes about this show. First time ever that Captain opened a show. Retro Louie, Louie outro in Warehouse.

The thing I'm noticing about this show is the overall consistency out of everyone in the band at this point.

Listen to Roi on Grace in the ending jam. He was the glue in this band. Everything else since his loss has been a bandaid, no pun intended, to move the band in a new direction. I'm missing the fuck out of that "classic" sound. Roi and Boyd on point is now considered a rarity by modern standards but when they were on, it was a major reason why this band had its distinct sound.

Check out the show. You won't be disappointed.
this is one of my favorite MSG shows and it is so underrated.

the 2004 versions of Sugar Will are the best and my favorite. I don't really enjoy post-2004 performances.

I fully agree. I enjoy The Riff, even though many people here do not. It never had the opportunity to be fully fleshed out in a live setting, but I often listen to the studio track.

As the years go by, I am agreeing with this statement more and more. It's such an incredible tune and really defines this band.

This was in the back of The Ivy Inn Restaurant where I had been a dishwasher and prep cook. My mom was a waitress there also.
We played a jazz set with John D’Earth which is why the upright was in the shot. This was actually my 3rd gig of the day!
great stuff right here

It really is amazing to stop and consider how bold they were being in terms of sound, racial diversity, and style as a band back in the early 90's. Like, they really threw caution to the wind, brought it all together, and seemingly said "if we give this thing enough love maybe it'll go somewhere."

And it sure-as-fuck did.

One of my favorite things about Matthews has always been his appetite for spreading love and positivity from a really young age. People that don't understand his legend just have absolutely no fucking clue.

I think that's why when people see him on SNL and in interviews, they react positively to him. He's hard to hate, just him himself.
I really think it's the fans and the surrounding vibe that turns people off more than anything.

Especially that last paragraph, though. And the cynics call it all an act. If so, it's been one hell of a long game.

This is a man who once teased Typical Situation and segued into You & Me. Can't Stop and a Be Yourself tease made the last studio album, in which fan favorite Mark Batson made his triumphant return. The cherry on top of this pie is a summer tour with 30 renditions of Louisana Bayou played, all while raking in the dough with a #1 album and a hardcore fanbase. Matthews is clearly playing the long game here. Not only does he toy with your emotions, wallet, and fandom, but he toys with your soul. A man can only hear so many Sexy MFer interpolations before his spirit breaks completely. When Matthews asks "How y'all doing this evening?", he knows. He can see it on your face. He'll keep you coming back with a Stone or Last Stop here and there, but the Sharpie is always kept fresh and ready to cross of that Pig in the encore for another Shake Me Like A Monkey. There's always Gorge 2019, you say. The long game, indeed.

A dance sequence? Were they doing a stomp around a campfire?
