Too much "what I'm listening to"s and "what's next"s and not enough snowflakes (also known as *s)

If you need a refresher on the format of the ratings, feel free to check out page 1. That said, next for me is probably 8/23/98, I just F5'd my copy thanks to dt.org. From memory it's ****+, but it has been a long time.

cut and paste the right channel to the left channel
to fix the diginoise. This was at 3:11 in Seek Up.
* Taper changed levels between Seek Up and LIOG during
the crowd noise.
* There is a burst between Too Much and Billies during
crowd noise, but it sounds like a PA problem.
* The encore break was not on the DAT.

* compiled by Louie Rendek on August 19, 2001.

I thought the point was to not only mention a show, but give a brief review and rating.

Review: This is a nice show. First off I really don't like Satellite as an opener at all. Gets better after that with a great run of songs including a AATW early in the set possibly the earliest in a set I have ever seen it played and a real nice version of #36 (this needs to come back) After Bartender which was fantastic they throw in a few standards but, I would recommend listing to ASTB. Roi puts a different twist on it which I have not heard before. Not a fan of LBV but, the crowd actualy seemed really into it. Decent encore with Grace is gone and Ants. All in all a nice show but, then again how shows from 2000 aren't.

Great summer 98 show.! DDTW is always a nice opener. Really cool version of Astb and I like the Encore as well I can not remember too many shows that Rhyme or Reason has closed. I miss how fast they used to perform rapunzel although it sounds a bit more polished now. This is a nearly perfect setlist imho. All in all a great show and nice sounding source.

Basically a typical 06 show but, I really like the encore with Dreamingtree and Ants. The New songs songs sounded good. another show with a DDTW opener but, I actually think its a great opener so no complaints here. 06.28 was the better show though for Tweeter imo. I really wish they would take WTWE out of rotation for a while.

Great listen

This was such a great show to listen to yesterday. The band was really on Dave seemed to be having a great time. only bathroom break song imo was Can't stop and it was only 2 and half minutes long. The start of the show was great with BOWA, pig, say goodbye & DDTW. Shotgun good but, you could tell it still needed work. nice encore with JTR -> Ants. If you don't have this show......... get it

Just wondering...is that out of 4 or 5 *?

The nice thing about that Can't Stop is that is was the first time played as a real song, so it was neat because it was new. After hearing it 8 million times after that, it sort of lost its appeal, but it wasn't that bad that night.

It's out of 5 I'm sure, but they should bear in mind that we're going by 1/4 * scale, so **** 1/4 is an acceptable rating.

Overall a really nice show. Sweet start with Seek up -> Lerio Solo -> PnP -> Rapunzel.
Other highlights were ddtw, Crush, and an amazing #41. The show as a whole had a great flow to it. Decent encore with lover lay down and watchtower The only thing that stops this show from getting 4 or more stars is a couple of 1998 staples that were not played .

doing some cleaning around tonight in preparation for my parent's visit tomorrow and put on 8/22/98 which i haven't listened to in forever. i was at the show and had some really nice seats for it, especially being pre-WH.

the run with the guest starting with The Stone and ending with Warehouse is just fantastic, especially Warehouse. so good... if you get a chance, check this show out.

June 16, 1996 - Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati, OH

It's a set to die for today as certain songs from this set have gotten a bit more rare. The only OSW of the tour, uncommon Minarets, True and WWYS were probably gems back when the show took place. However, very little energy transfered on to tape. "Blah" is best way I would describe it. Nothing was bad, but really only Nancies was anything more than tame. I was bored during a show that contains 3 of my current top 5 (Say Goodbye, Nancies & Minarets). I think that even considering Crash is very collection of tunes, and a very good handful shows betray the fact that the rest of the shows from this mini-tour are a bit unsatisfying. The Nancies is very good with a long intro; I'm not sure I've heard a bad one (sans skree of course). What can you say about the encore. It was the encore at my first show also, and it wasn't any good live, either. If I've only listened to 10 shows in my life, I'm sure none would be lower than ***, but seeing as that's not the way things are, * 3/4.

setlist:
Spoiler:
#41
One Sweet World
Two Step »
Crash Into Me
Say Goodbye
Drive In Drive Out
Dancing Nancies
Warehouse
Cry Freedom
Minarets
True Reflections
Lie In Our Graves
What Would You Say
Too Much
Ants Marching
=====
Satellite
Tripping Billies

Nancies intro:
Spoiler:
Ya know, when I was like…
When I was like 15 years old
I used to have long hair
And used to have studs coming out of my throat
Used to have…
I used to drink and scream with little dogs
And scare children
I used to listen to the Sex Pistols
I used to listen to…
I used to listen to Iron Maiden
And I used to listen to…
Anything that was too loud to bear
I’d listen to…
And I saw straight up and down that I was gonna scream
And scream
And scream
And scream
And life went on…
But if I looked at myself today, I’d say
“Hey, what a queer little quiet melodic motherfucker that guy is”
Oh my God, I’d turn around and say….
“Hey, you never know…..”

Don’t you ever wonder…..
Maybe if you took a left turn, instead of taking that right
You’d be somebody quite different tonight
Don’t you ever wonder
Man, could have I been somebody quite different from me
Somebody with a different scene

Don’t you ever wonder
Maybe, maybe if the day came up and I rose, instead of sleeping late, I’d be somebody Other than myself
Somebody
Anyone, anyone, anyone….

also could be the only time on tape that "the captain" Coran Capshaw gets a shout-out by Dave.

"The question of the hour is 'What is freedom when you know God is on your side?'"

August 7, 2003 - The Gorge Amphitheatre - George, Washington

While a touch short of an absolutely special show, this show is everything that was right about 2003. It lacks Boyd's awfulness, the setlist features many of the solid returns like a truly majestic and hypnotic Dreaming Tree, Spoon and Minarets; along with the SMTS » Rapunzel. #41 has no Everyday outro, and the segue into Everyday was a nice touch. The Minarets is worth a 3/4 * in itself. I honestly believe it's one of the top 5 non-guest infused performances of the past 10 years with Bartender from Boston 02 and Seek Up from SPAC 01. It is a special performance with an incredible build. Dave and Carter crescendo in sync like they'd played the song every night for the last 6 years. **** 1/2

That Minarets is absolutely ridiculous. A must have show if only for that.
