Sorry to encroach on your territory, Jason, but I'm curious what folks think about these songs.

If you drop some of the awful duds (drum machine IOY, among others), then I think this is a pretty solid group of songs. I'd even go so far to say that I really like a lot of these songs.

Will need to listen a few more times before voting.

Right now I'd give it a 6 based on some of the more finished "newer" songs and the potential of some of the rougher stuff.

I've only heard it once, too, so I'll listen some more and vote later.

I'm still excited. This is basically an album's worth of material here. Better than Stand Up by miles. A great way to end a year where our collective expectations weren't completely crushed.

I’ve got them. I’m sure I’ll get curious enough to actually listen to something with the name “Batson” on it at some point, but I’m not there right now.

A solid 6 for me. Which is a lot for an unfinished album.

Hard to rate as a whole because there’s drum loop tracks and lots of really rough stuff on disc 1. I cut 12 tracks out and quite enjoy the 21 I’m left with overall. I would give just those a 7 for what they are. But as a whole it’s hard to rate such raw stuff as a whole.

I think its a 6 or 7 when I put some blinders on about the roughness of it, which I actually kinda dig over the overproduced shit that gets shoved out the door. Overall I like the batch of songs that were not completed a lot more than Everyday / Stand Up / Big Whiskey. Which isn't shocking to me at all considering the 2004/2006 songs are some of my favorites that never found a home.

Also... CoCo is easily the song I hated the most out of CT and I find myself liking it more in 12 year old demo form. Go figure. Still fuck that song. We get that but not Break Free or Kill the King or Shotgun or Drive Me Away or Break for It or even the stuff like Celebrate/ABC etc that are "new" and have some really nice musical ideas going on.

This band man. I feel like I have spent the bulk of my life wondering wtf they are doing.

After listening to my 20 or so favorite tracks a few times today, I would rank this collection of favorites above SU, ED, BW, and CT. Not quite up to par with AFTW for me, but a solid 7 nonetheless. A very pleasant surprise this weekend!

After listening a few times, I've created a playlist of what I'd call "Stand Up, Vol. 2" -- basically eliminating the songs that are completely unfinished and just ideas:

1. These Are Ghosts (unfinished, but I like starting the "album" this way)
2. Can't Stop
3. Kill The King
4. Bullets and Rum
5. Break Free
6. Early Home
7. #27
8. Drive Me Away
9. Break For It
10. Come On
11. Sister
12. Shotgun
13. Celebrate

I'm leaving off some stuff, some of which I think is really good, that just isn't finished nearly enough to consider as part of an album for rating (Ask, Situation, Cornbread, Red Glare, Blackjack, Scream into the Grave) and all of the instrumental stuff (ABC, Fonz, Robert Randolph).

I've got to listen to this "album" a few more times and give it a couple of days, but I really do like a lot of what was released here. Batson's influence is a lot clearer here than on Stand Up (a lot more tracks have that hip-hop / R&B "head nod" type of grove, especially on Bullets and Rum), and there's more variety to Dave's vocals and the type of songs being written. It's also all from an era that predates the "dad rock" rut the band has been stuck in, so it feels fresh in that regard.

I think there's a lot of good going on here. I'll have to see how I feel in a few days / weeks.

way too early for this, but I think you can make a 12-song track listing that holds up to any album since BS.

I gave it a 5. I really like a bunch of songs on this a lot, but overall looking at it from above, its mediocre mainly because of how choppy and unfinished most of it is. But Early Home, Drive Me Away are great, and thereís a second tier of about 5 songs that are really good and with some work will be borderline great. Thereís also a lot of junk and nonsense that shouldnít see the light of Day and for good reason didnít until now. So itís in the middle at a 5/10 for me.
