This one gets a solid zero from me. What an incredibly shitty, uninspired album from front to back. BARELY a redeeming piece of music on here. Maybe American Baby, but that's being generous.

I'm just curious to see how low it can go. I'm going to guess it'll top out around 8%

I gave it a 3.

It's actually quaint to listen to, in retrospect -- there are a lot of political themes in the album and the main thought I have while listening is "Oh, if you only knew how much worse it was going to get..."

The other thing that stands out to me about this album is that it isn't a "Bad" album per se, it's just horridly dull.

Gave it a 1.

I think there are some .... ideas here? That I sort of like. The whole thing is a disaster though and it's embarrassing it was actually released by a major band not terribly far removed from the peak of their careers.

As a DMB album I'd give it a 0. As an album overall I gave it a 1.

Zero from me. This album and its tour were so disastrous to me that I stopped listening to the band completely for almost a decade. There are barely any worthwhile ideas on this album, and even the few that there are are so haphazardly performed and produced that there’s literally no joy in it for me at all. I really tried to give it a shot when it came out, but it’s pure, unadulterated garbage. I could maybe give it a single star, but that would be for the bonus disc.

2. And really only because ABI and You Might Dye Trying are ok live. I don't hope for them, but I accept them.

You bring up a good point on the B-Side. Management was either like, "look we need to put some good songs on this or it's a total turd" or "we'd love to highlight the drastic difference between good and bad dmb."

Really love that Sugar Will, Typical and it's an especially strong Crash.

Uno!

American Baby and Dreamgirl (a guilty pleasure of mine sometimes, I like Roi and the guitar part) are the two tracks I'll go back and enjoy.

Dreamgirl, American Baby, EBWU, Out of My Hands, and Bayou are passable/good studio tracks. ODH, SU, YMDT, Smooth Rider and Hello Again have become decent to great live songs.
Considering those factors I give the album the lowest 5 possible. Still a Rotten rating but a generous one. I think I’ll regret it and wish I voted 3 or 4.

Without question though, the band’s absolute worst songwriting and studio work can all be found on this record. YNK, Loving Wings, and the 04 songs were all steps back in the right direction after ED. But SU was a mind blowing step back and just confusing.

1. I’ve produced better sounding albums than this. Sounded like a band producing an album themselves and just learning how to use protools for the first time. Terrible lyrics, terrible songs, bad production, cut and paste effects and parts, none of the bands musical talent showcased (except Roi on AB). Clearly DMB “trying too hard” to be something else and it showed. I don’t count live because that’s not the album. I was really young when this album came out and even then thought it was shitty and made no sense after listening to Busted Stuff a couple years earlier.
