For me, this album has aged really well. Still some songs I'd rather not hear (I Did It, Mother Father, Dreams of Our Fathers, Angel) and the production is a huge question mark.....but the good outweighs the bad, here.

So Right, Fool to Think and The Space Between are top-tier, If I Had It All, What You Are, Everyday and When the World Ends hold their own and even Sleep to Dream Her is a lyrical standout.

That’s funny, because I’ve always been ok with the music on STDH (mostly Roi), but thought that the lyrics were borderline unredeemable.

If we’re judging purely on the album, and not the fact that some of these songs found a legitimate place live, I give the album a 3. Most of the songs feel underdeveloped, it has none of the band’s personality and little of its musicianship in it, and the production strangles all the air out of it. I probably haven’t listened to it in 15 years, and I probably never will again.

5. Still the album that gives me the most frustration. Even though Stand Up obviously sucks a whole lot more, this record was obviously a turning point for the band. Hasn't really been the same since.

Some of the songs have aged well live - Space Between, So Right, Fool To Think which has softened my overall feeling on the record, but most of it remains unlistenable.

I'll be interested to see how this one compares to Come Tomorrow, especially.

The songs have aged well. The production has most definitely not. It sounds so much like it was made in 1998-2002, with the glossy overproduction.

Songs: 7.5
Album as a whole: 6

Song rank:

So Right
Fool to Think
The Space Between
What You Are
Everyday
Dreams of Our Fathers
When the World Ends
Sleep to Dream Her
If I Had It All
I Did It
Mother Father
Angel

Truthfully, I don’t hate any of these songs. Even Angel is fine, IMO. The lyrics are cheesy, but whatever.

I don't hate this album because there are more great/good songs than there are bad ones. The bad ones are really bad though. And the production is in a word: terrible.

Great Songs:
So Right
The Space Between
Fool To Think

Good Songs:
What You Are
If I Had It All
Everyday
WTWE

Meh Songs:
STDH
DOOF
Mother Father

Terrible:
Angel
I Did It

I gave it a 4. I don't like the sound of the record overall. It just sounds dated and cheesy. It doesn't feel like DMB in very many places. The best songs on the album are nowhere near the better songs in the catalog, save for probably So Right. Basically half of it has become serviceable to solid live DMB while the other half is stuff I'd never want to hear again.

In 2001, I would have given a 1. Today I'll give a 3. So that's progress!

Yeah, my 3 is definitely more than I would have given it at the time. But, gotta have space to go down from here.

This is 100% exactly right.

Enough for a solid 6.

I’d be curious to see what a public fan poll would be like for all those albums. I imagine the big 3 would average out in the 80s and the rest would be in the 70s.

You underestimate their fans. You & Me is on BWGGK, so, instant 10. Steady As We Go was played at everyone's wedding.....so....also 10. Away From the World? Yeah that's probably a 9.

Basically I think the highs for us will be leveled down a bit, and the lows will be boosted upwards. Everything will even out a bit more. Basically I feel the TDC/Ants fans are more critical of the newer material overall and more adoring of the old stuff, so the general fan audience balances that out.

5 for me. Underrated album lyrically. I understand the production commentary, but I wouldn’t say the album has bad production. Just different.
