2018's Stand Up (the album) Resurgence

I posted this in another thread but I think it's worthy of its own. This tour has been defined so far by the CT songs as well as the resurgence of songs from the band's worst album. I did some quick stats on this year so far (minus tonight).

They are playing more than double (sometimes nearly triple) the usual amount of Stand Up songs. It's the highest rate of Stand Up songs since 2007. And YMDT is only 3 out of the 30 plays this year.

2018: 30 plays (3 YMDT) (12 shows) (2.5 songs/show)
2016: 30 plays (24 YMDT) (41 shows) (.7 songs/show)
2015: 42 plays (17 YMDT) (44 shows) (.9 songs/show)
2014: 40 plays (7 YMDT) (40 shows) (1 song/show)
2013: 47 plays (16 YMDT) (42 shows)(1.1 songs/show)
2012: 35 plays (10 YMDT) (42 shows) (.8 songs/show)
2010: 34 plays (20 YMDT) (50 shows) (.68 songs/show)
2009: 42 plays (32 YMDT) (54 shows) (.7 songs/show)
2008: 117 plays (48 shows) (2.4 songs/show)
2007: 102 plays (35 shows) (2.9 songs/show)
2006: 146 plays (51 shows) (2.8 songs/show)
2005: 401 plays (omg) (51 shows) (7.8 songs/show)

I guess my point for posting this is that I am concerned at the level of Stand Up being played. If any album should have a spotlight that isn't Come Tomorrow, it should obviously be BTCS because of its anniversary. There's no doubt in my mind the Stand Up revival is directly related to the band working with Batson again. It's like the band realized it was their weakest album and now have been talked back into playing more of it.

That's it, Sir.
I understand.

It kind of feels like a big fuck you to Lillywhite and BTCS and that entire chapter of their history but I thought that was just in my head.

I would dispute that they've been "talked back into playing more of it"; I think they basically play whatever the hell they want to. If they're playing more of it, then they want to play more of it, full stop.

Feels about on par with 2008, when Bayou, OOMH, and ODH were in heavy rotation. I don’t like it, but given I’m going to 3 shows max this year, and haven’t heard any of this SU stuff for the last many many years, I kind of don’t care.

What’s shocking to me is that the CT has been out for a few days now, and they’re still only playing 3-4 CT songs per show. There has never been a new album with that few songs per show on an album tour on 1-nighters, especially. Usually it’s double that per show.

I can't read full stop and not think of Radiohead.

Yeah but that was also still just three years after release before another album had been released.

And I am stunned they haven't played more CT, I'm sure it'll pick up after this webcast, but it would be annoying to go into a show this year wanting to hear 2-3 songs from CT and getting 2-3 different ones than you wanted to hear

Here's the nightmare scenario: They never realized that at all.

What if they just left it off setlists because they didn't like playing it without keyboards?
And now they have a keyboard, so they're excited to get back to playing some of their favorite songs, like Stand Up!

That is the darkest timeline.

I feel like this is a light me on fire kind of opinion and might be veering into 2018 Stockholm Syndrome but I'm finding myself enjoying Bayou more than a lot of the other everysinglefuckingshow songs that have been played in past tours.

Its not my favorite song and I groaned in 2013 when it started up at Jones, yet this year it fits? I dont know.

Stand Up is still a flaming asshole of a song though and I'm glad it got dropped from nearly every show like it was at the start of the tour.

Everybody Wake Up is a good live song. Love the extended jam at the end of the Red Rocks release from 2005. I’d be interested in hearing what it sounds like without Boyd on the mandolin.

Is it possible Boyd didn’t play much on Stand Up? Because if that’s the case they likely went back to the songs because Boyd’s not there and they knew he wouldn’t be missing on them.... just my $0.02

Working with Batson recently is the reason. Pretty simple.

Let me give you an idea...a hell of a lot better, and in tune!
