In-Depth Song Discussion #7—Stand Up

Been A while since I’ve made one of these almost forgot about it.

Yeah so this song really blows, and still does. Lyrics are bad, ultra repetitive to the point of hell and unbelievably forgettable. The fact they’ve played this almost every night this tour so far is pretty mind boggling. The only good thing is that it’s short and at least energetic. I’d take it over DOTHS or Out Of My Hands Live, that’s for sure. And it’s probably a little better than Hunger, though it’s close.

Best version? do we care? I’d say if I had to choose it might be one of the ones from this year with Buddy.

This is gonna go well.

I do like the Shotgun interpolation they've been doing lately, though.

seriously.

There’s that one with Lawlor I remember I liked. Is that on weekend on rocks? If not, then maybe there’s 2. Oh and that medley with Recently and Conrbread was cool too.

I liked it in 2010 when it was part of the Recently/Cornbread/Standup combo. Doesnt really do much else for me to be honest.

Those actually were pretty cool.

There is an officially released version of that out there too.

Awful the song on the album, but I'm enjoying it live now as well. Outro with Buddy is pretty fantastic live. There was one with Lawlor years ago that was officially released I think. Great version.

"In-depth" and "Stand Up" don't belong in the same sentence.

Yep, same here. Can't stand any of them before 2018.

Having not heard a recent version, I assumed it was the DMB song they were interpolating. It's still a cool jam, even if the song (Stand Up) is just meh.

I have a soft spot for the WOTR version. The 07 Sampler one with Lawlor is good too. And the D&T one was kind of neat.
This year’s have had great second halves but I haven’t heard a version yet where they didn’t screw up the main part of the song in some way.

I enjoyed the shit out of those versions.

This year is ok, the energy is higher and the Shotgun outro is a nice add that pads it out to less of a shitty early load blown end. Song was a dog on the album and back when it was in almosteveryfuckingday mode in 2005.

That about sums it up for me as well. Gotta admit that was fairly creative.

These are all you need. One of my favorites off Stand Up and couldn’t have said it better myself.

I think the responses in here have covered it.

Great Roi solo on WOTR, it was cool used in the Stand Up Corn Bread Recently package, the Lawlor Summer Sampler 2007 performance is good, and the Shotgun interpolations have been cool this tour.

The song is an absolute pile of garbage though. It's like 15% finished/fleshed out. The studio version is an abomination.

Remember when they used this song for nfl commercials? Another reason it’s embarrassing to be a fan of this band.
