Iím talking about how WIA made Carter sound like a mechanical session drummer. Same thing on Again and Again

He's talking about the tone and darker nature of the song being reflected in the production of the studio performance.

Yeah, I agree. I absolutely love VITR, but Lying in the Hands of God is not even the same attempt as VITR.

This is better than the mediocre I thought it was going to be. Wow, didn't expect to be saying that.

Come On Come On sounds like “How’s it gonna be” by third eye blind

I've never really thought of LITHOG as being particularly dark.

I'm also with Brandon though, this is a Dave + Friends album... it's not DMB.

I said yesterday it reminds me of dive in and space between.

I mean it's not Blue Water dark, but I think the music most certainly elicits this eerie vibe, the kinda that makes you really focus on every part of the song, which is exactly what VITR does, at least for me anyway. They're not the same song, but I get what Nick's saying.

Iíve long thought LITHOG is one of the more overrated songs in the catalog. Itís okay but they were going for something epic-ish and came up with something a little hollow and awkward in parts (the horns at the beginning always make me cringe...it sounds so forced and lacking any real flow and airiness).

When I think raw Dave Matthews Band I think UTTAD or even more so R2T. Granted, I haven't heard this album yet but from what I have heard and from the accounts given here it sounds like it is very much so an over-produced album featuring studio musicians more than or as much as founding members and people touring with the band for the last decade, jarring edits and songs literally sewn together and parts deliberately dubbed in from over a decade ago. Could it be that it sounds unfinished instead of raw? Maybe spontaneous or "fuck it, let's roll with that take"? Raw evokes a feeling of unpolished brilliance - is that really what you guys mean?

for my own personal uses, i've re-ordered this album and cut a few tracks that i dont think quite fit or that i simply don't like.

Idea of You
Black & Blue Bird
Here On Out
Do You Remember
Samurai Cop
bkdkdkdd
Again And Again
Virginia In The Rain
Come On Come On

i tried to put She in there somewhere, but it didn't quite work for me.

but i think thats a solid flow and something that i'm more likely to listen to the whole way through. phone call into bkdkdkdd works, too.

I think it's the opposite of WIA -- WIA sounded super-flat in studio compared to how it was sounding at shows. A&A has actual heft in this recording.
