Been on a Petty tear all month. Surprised Highway Companion didn't get much love. Same with the "She's the One" soundtrack. Top 5 for me.

Always one of my favorites this time of year. Usually the first song that goes on when we start putting up the Tree.

Tom Petty died of an accidental drug overdose. He was apparently mixing medications.

Just saw that. Not a big shocker or anything, but makes it hurt a little more.

Oh fuck.

The same thing Philip Seymour Hoffman died of, just different drugs. Technically not an overdose though. An important distinction.

From what I read, he was in severe back pain and took too much. I don't fault the guy for that.

He had done the whole 40th Anniversary Tour with a partially fractured hip, and apparently by the end of it he had a complete fracture. He was in a ton of pain.

When I saw him at Red Rocks you could tell he wasn’t moving well, and then they toured another three months after that. This sucks, because he was trying to pull through for the band and the fans and ultimately succumbed to the pain.

Absolutely. Prescription painkillers are no joke and need to be taken way more seriously and those on them need to be watched more closely for their own good. Ugh, what a horrible situation.

These medicines are highly regulated. They have the scripts in computers and they track everybody. The painkillers are deadly dangerous when mixed with benzodiazepines (Xanax etc). Then there’s heroin, which is more or less the same thing, but we throw people in jail for that. It’s such a messed up system. You used to be able to walk into a pharmacy and buy heroin over the counter.

I've gone to the doctor for pain issues and been offered them and refused. Don't want any part of it.

Hell one time I sprained my ankle and the doctor gave me VICODIN!

Band I play in love Petty, we're working to do set of Petty. We're adding two tunes Saturday night, one of which is Room At the Top off Echo. Such a great time, fun to play!

He was so good. Every day I stillI think about how much it sucks that he’s gone. I have their final Red Rocks poster framed and hanging in my room and as much as I love it it reminds me that we’ll never experience his music again. He should’ve been around at least another 20 years; a part of me will always feel like we were robbed of one of the best way too soon.
