I saw Lady Bird tonight, and I gotta say, if anything, I love that this movie is making people re-examine their pretentious views towards music. The fact that "Crash Into Me" appears prominently twice in the movie is being praised as an authentic use of the song. It's nice to see that people can at least get back in touch with the appeal of DMB, even if they've moved past it for not being "cool enough." I'm seeing critics now denouncing indie filmmakers of soundtracking their movies with so-called cool music, regardless of how it actually relates to the people in the movie. And how authentic bonding with music occurs behind closed doors, and isn't concerned with street cred. The whole thing is interesting to me, as someone who loves music, and has connected with DMB for 15 years, yet has always been aware that it's "embarrassing" to the cool kids.

I saw the movie as well and thought the use of crash, and some of the other songs, was well placed. I have to believe people are lying to themselves if they say they didn't listen to cheesy music in high school. Everyone has music they are embarrassed to admit that they liked. Obviously musical tastes evolve as a person moves through life. The idea that someone is 'above' listening to some band is absurd.

On a side note, go see this movie if you haven't. I had to drag my husband and he ended up enjoying it.

"Cool kids" are the ones embarrassed to say that they like as 99% say what they think it the right answer to fit in and be cool.

Only DM-related thing that's excited me in the last year is Dave, Tim, and Bela playing a show I could not care less about. But hopefully Bela slips in for a few songs. It might be a preview of next Fall's album tour with the 'Tones opening...

If the last 19.5 years is any indication, they're writing a couple of decent songs, and a handful of lackluster songs that lose their appeal after you hear them once live.

19.5 years bad, 4-5 years good. Completely insane we're still here talking about it.

So they've only had 5 years of being good?

Matt Cappy releasing his first album. He's played 37 songs over eight shows guesting with dmb since 2007.

I mean in terms of album quality, not touring years. Sorry, should have clarified.

No worries. It's all good. So you are saying since BTCS then, right? If that's the case, I would still consider the LWS as great studio work though.
