I want Cavallo to work with them solely on the next album.

Samurai Cop
Again and Again
Here On Out
Black and Blue Bird
Virginia in the Rain

are a hell of a lot better than the Batson stuff on CT, and better-produced than DYR, She and especially TGIY.

I still wanna hear the studio Bismarck.

I think Batson somewhat redeemed himself with his work on Come Tomorrow. Not that anything will ever make up for Stand Up, as a whole.

Me too, it was my favorite of the newer batch of songs and seemed mostly finished.

The debut Bismarck is a real gem. Very cool song and performance.

So of course it was shelved.

Virginia in the Rain is a Batson song, not a Cavallo song.

Somehow I think that ship has sailed with Cavallo, we'll see. The fact they didn't finish this record with him and decided to get other people involved doesn't bode well for him imo. I think it's much more likely we see Alagia take a full on production job with the band on the next album, especially since Dave started to write with him again.

It's anybody's guess though. I know it's good for continuity to stay with the same guy, but personally I think they need someone totally fresh they haven't worked with who's going to push them a bit. No idea who that person would be.

Why have I thought this whole time it was Batson? I have a distinct memory of discussing how it's hard to think Batson is THAT bad of a producer with how nice this song sounds on the album. Is there another song on there that Batson produced that is actually pretty well done? Maybe I'm just mixing them up....

IOY is really the only Batson song that sounds surprisingly good. The other Batson songs on CT aren't produced offensively bad or anything, but certainly not very good. Especially stacked right up against Cavallo's great production on A&A and VITR.

Maybe I'm thinking of something from the leaked Batson sessions? I doubt it, though, since there wasn't much production on any of that at all.

Come On Come On is my favourite Batson-produced song. IOY is my favourite Batson session song.

Those songs are all still so meh. They’re nice songs, no doubt. Just incredibly underwhelming and forgetful.

Even if the songs are meh, the production on them helps. A&G and VITR particularly are better studio than live. Batson has never produced a studio track better than the live version.

I absolutely hated Can't Stop before I heard it on the album. It's still not my favorite song, but I enjoy it. So I would say Batson did as much with that tune as you possible could.
