If inductees were based only on their work 25-30 years into their careers, nobody would be in.

I wish Roi were alive to embrace this recognition as well.

DMB Receives Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nomination

They definitely deserve the nomination. I’m shocked anyone who posts here could be surprised.

First band to have 7 consecutive album debuts at #1
Over 100 million concert tickets sold
Grammy winner for 1996 Best Rock Vocal Performance and 13 other Grammy nominations
NAACP Image Award
Consistently top billboard rankings for touring/ticket sales throughout their career
Exemplary philanthropic efforts

I’m sure I’ve missed plenty.

Also, for read on Billboard’s take:

How did you get to 13 nominations and 1 win?

11 nominations + 1 win for DMB:

Having said that, excluding all album efforts, they deserve credit for their massive touring success over the years. Maybe that's enough.

The rock and roll hall of fame is nothing but a vanity project for Jann Wenner.

He uses it to reward his friends and show his enemies. [Only registered users can see links.]

Read the biography Sticky Fingers if you want to be absolutely disgusted.

DMB was never a doubt to get a nomination because they've always been in his good graces.

So you're saying they couldn't get nominated on their own merits?

He's saying if Jann Wenner doesn't want them in, they wouldn't be in because it isn't really based on merit to begin with.

I mean it's cool and if DMB is happy about this then I'm happy for them, but honestly it doesn't matter that much. Internal politics of the RRHOF/Rolling Stone/HBO/and others have kinda negated the prestige of this honor. There have been many artists and bands who have accepted this award with mixed feelings and let that be known when they made their speech. I think the last one I remember was Daryl Hall, basically calling it a bullshit award calling out those who vote people in.

I'm not one to protest this so if they get in, I'll definitely watch. I always like seeing other musical acts react to Dave/DMB, especially when they're clearly fans. When Foo Fighters made their Documentary "Sonic Highways", I thought it was pretty cool that Dave Grohl went into a Seattle studio and saw Dave's picture on the wall and it immediately caught his attention and he was like "oh wow, Dave recorded here!?".

Correct.

If you read sticky fingers, you will realize nothing about rolling stone or the hall or anything else wenner is involved in is about merit. For decades, the music reviews have been controlled to always favor people who kissed wenner's ass and always crucify people who didn't. With, again, Paul Simon as the loudest, most explicit, example.

So, if/when they get inducted...will Boyd join them on stage in recognition of the honor? Will he play with them again on stage at the event?

They can't stop him and I can't see him saying "no", so I think so.

In that case they could just mute him like normal.

There must be examples of something like this happening before to other acts that have gotten in.
