Thank you for the rec!

I'm not sure how I feel about this album - it actually made me question how I feel about BNL. I LOVE Stunt and when I think of BNL, that's the album that is immediately associated with them. Maroon also had some great songs on it, but wasn't as great front to back as Stunt. With this album, I think I've come to the realization that I like Stunt and a few other songs from BNL (including a few off this one, like Maybe Katie) but I'm not a fan of BNL as a whole. Sadly, I'm starting to get that way with DMB as well, especially with the weakness of the more recent material.

Somehow it completely snuck up on me that I’m up this week.

I’ve recommended this one to a few people on here before, but I’m going to push it out again because I know there are a lot of Bela Fleck fans on here and for whatever reason this album tends to still go unnoticed by many. This weeks album is:

Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck and Mike Marshall- Uncommon Ritual

It’s a collection of acoustic trio chamber music by these three virtuoso musicians and is maybe my favorite single album with the name Bela Fleck on it. For you ‘Tones fans, Big Country was originally written and appears in a slightly different arrangement on this album. Also, the song Sliding Down is, in my opinion, one of the single most beautiful compositions of all time.

I was fortunate enough to catch them on the short tour that they did to promote this album back in 1998, and it was absolutely stunning. And I mean that I walked out of that theater literally stunned.

A quick note that it’s on the streaming services but seems to get catalogued strangely sometimes, so search for it under Edgar Meyer’s name first. That’s where it usually pops up.

I figured I'd like this week's pick and I definitely did. Very talented trio right there.

This week's album is Acoustic Sessions by The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

This band is Sean Lennon and girlfriend Kemp Muhl. They formed the band really just to spend more time together but as they are both multi-instrumentalists and song writers I think it works really well. I love this album, I hope you do too.

With the holiday it looks like many of us have fallen behind on this week’s pick (including me). Does anyone object to us skipping a new pick this weekend and picking back up next weekend instead?

Pretty interesting instrumentation on Uncommon Ritual. I’ve never heard him
collaborate with anyone else. Bela really is on another level. I haven’t researched banjo players much. But few sound as original as Bela Fleck.

I liked Acoustic Sessions. It’s cool to hear a purely acoustic studio album. It kind of had an old school folk vibe too.

Would anyone be interested in a google doc to keep track of these/what's been listened to. Sometimes I get behind a week or two and forget where I'm at, what I've listened to, etc. Could also use it to keep track of who's next in the order.

I can make it, just let me know!

edit: it's made...whether or not we use it is the question. I can backlog the tracker for all albums. I tried to get everyone in the thread I saw - sorry if I missed anyone: [Only registered users can see links.]

Looks good. I like it. I’d been keeping track in the original post, but I was way behind and if you’re going to maintain this it’ll be much better. I’ll probably just replace that list with your link if that’s ok with you.

I've already been collating my favorite album and song that each person has picked. This will be helpful to me. I will post them after Christmas!

I’ve been making a 2019 playlist, one song per album, to keep track of the count.
