Minimal improv, songs remain largely unchanged, carter canít be bothered to throw drum sticks anymore. N2s being shorter and more boring than n1s. Meh. I hope something changes but I suspect this is it from here in out.
Agree. The "look happier" thing is also BS IMO, they always appear that way on stage.

I've seen them smiling and enjoying themselves up there a lot more than in most 3.0 years. The improv aspect has been that way since 2011 honestly, they've made a conscious effort to do less of that and have Jeff and Rashawn be more of a "section". It's not about fire, it's just a musical direction decision. I think Dave has had a lot of fire especially with writing and wanting to record and do new material---it's just unfortunate that his songwriting style is so bland now.

The best thing this band can do right now and I've been saying it for years is to cut back on the number of shows per tour. The shows will matter more, they'll be more fun and anticipated for both the fans and the band, and they'll be more prone to opening up the catalog knowing there's not a whole summer to do so (and subsequently getting content and lazy with the rotation). It's honestly such a no brainer to me, but I guess they get close to still selling out most venues with 40+ shows a year, so why not rake in the $ while you can. If you look at Fall 2018, that's great proof of how good a small scale tour could be. Go to 25-28 shows not 40+
I'm definitely on board with a shorter tour. More multi-night stops and fewer one off places would help, too. As you mentioned, attendance overall seemed pretty good this year so I get why the machine keeps rolling.

We all remember the very real sonic and overall energy change from 06/07 to Tim coming back in May/June of 08. Talk about a band looking and sounding rejuvenated. I'd love a similar type transition one more time but I'm not sure it's going to happen. Buddy certainly hasn't had the impact Tim had. I'm not blaming Buddy for that and his circumstances are obviously very different than Tim's significance in the band's entire story.

I think we got another 10 years of DMB so long as everyone stays healthy. I just hope there's one more significant change or resurgence before they hang it up. Dave has a lot of years performing ahead of him still and I'm looking forward to seeing him to the end.

I’m also in favor of fewer shows and a focus on multi-night stands. That seems to be the only way to open up the catalogue. Most one-nighters are average at best.

Seek Up - 12/4/18

I really enjoyed being at this show. Expectations were low for a fall show on a Tuesday in New Hampshire and the band certainly didn't play like their lives depended on it, but there was some truly great musicianship that night. Currently listening to this Seek Up. The intro build from Jeff and Ross has been something I've both enjoyed and loathed over the last 10 years. Sometimes Ross just tries to over-power right out of the gate and Jeff follows suit and it just becomes a mess that's masked as an energetic crescendo, but this time there was this delicate approach and that chaotic climb was concise, fun and beautiful. Dave really entered this vocally like walking on eggshells, treating this performance with a lot of care and Tim's eerie additions throughout made this a great performance. Also really love what Buddy added to this one. It reminded me of what I miss from Butch.

Not a bad show whatsoever for the era, but if it wasn't for that goddamn thunderstorm.....

Just enjoyed a re-listen to 4/5/95 (dmblive). Really an amazing show. Love that Angel from Montgomery!! Ah, to be in that room. 1995 really smoked. Now I’m onto 4/7/95 another really classic show. Love DMB 1.0

Finally purchased LT 41 D&T Berkeley 99. The three songs stick out to me are Last Stop, The Stone and Lie in Our Graves. Also having Ill Back You up and Halloween back to back is also very interesting.

This is a really good show, glad i finally bought it.

I was in the pavilion for that show, had a fantastic time, the crowd around me went nuts when they started Seek Up and it flowed really well, such a good memory.

I'm listening to Live Trax Vol 31 from 2001, on the bonus tracks right now.

Now when Seek Up starts most of the crowd doesnít even know what it is. Mass exodus to the bathroom/beer lines. Such a shame.

He really was. And 8/4's Granny is my favorite version of that song, too. It was a solid 2-nighter for 2001.
