For some of you this may be akin to Eddie Vedder speaking out about sociopolitical causes, especially at concerts, and just want your musicians to be one dimensional founts of entertainment solely for your consumption, however, I digress, Neil is supporting this worthwhile cause:

Has Neil explained why he did those recordings in Jack White's record booth? It's seems contradictory to about 50,000 words he ranted into his book.

I think his first desire is for the music to "sound like the artist originally intended", more so than "sound like the artist is standing next to you"

Neil had a great interview on Howard Stern a couple days ago. Check it out if you're able to.

Neil Young
I respect him as a musician and as an artist, but man I can't get into his stuff at length, it just brings me down (no offense to anyone here). I can endure 3-4 tunes and then I'm good for like a year.

![]() I liked the "what the hell are you doing on America's Got Talent panel?" ![]() He also had an interview with Jim Cramer of Mad Money recently, that guy acted like a little school girl in the presence of a god. Pretty funny. |

Curious, what are you listening to? His catalog is so diverse I feel like you're just missing some stuff.

"[Only registered users can see links.] " Young Neil Young 5:03 [Only registered users can see links.] I always thought Harvest is a pretty uplifting album. It's quiet and beautiful. This is the version of Neil that pays attention to every single note played. Your greatest hits album picks from Harvest the song he wrote about his drummer ODing on heroin after Neil fired him from the band for being too messed up to play, so yeah it's pretty fucking dark because Neil felt responsible. Old Man is actually about buying a farm in Alberta, and the old dude selling the land was giving Neil shit because he had long hair and played rock music. It's kind of less depressing than it seems at first. Live stuff with Crazyhorse like Jack mentioned is also fun, but it's the complete opposite. When Neil is rocking, its kind of about just riding the wave, not caring about any single note. I think Le Noise is pretty fucking awesome, too. It's an album he did with Danny Lanois in 2010, after he was recovered from nearly dying related to a brain aneurysm. He's definitely not a cheery guy and he doesn't make happy music. But I there is some real beauty in there that isn't outright depressing. Last edited by mario; 10-21-2014 at 11:30 AM. |
