So I'm checking out this Garcia Live series.

Volume 2 has Bela guesting? Please tell me this is worth the tantalized feeling that has just overrun my Friday morning...

Just downloaded #2. Have not heard it yet. Really liked 1, and have three waiting for me at home. Cool series so far.

I'm also a big fan of just Garcia and Kahn. The sets are all pretty similar, and they did two sets but they were two shows, so there are occasionally a repeat within a 'show.' I think there is only one proper release, but there are tapes/sbds of most of the shows.

Also, Garcia only played solo once (pretty sure). After that he decided he needed Kahn with him. The solo show from NY circulates and is at least worth one listen.

Now you have your weekend assignment

fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Being a fan of these guys is like running on pure adrenaline for weeks on end. Its a bottomless pit of material that would otherwise go undiscovered without personal fortitude... and I fucking love it.

I'll be putting up crown molding this weekend, so I was needing something to listen to in the garage. I have just found it. Gonna call some record stores to see if I can't find a physical copy of Volume 2. Will also be grabbing that solo show. What was the date on that, off the top of your head if you have it?

Thanks

I had a Jerry solo acoustic show on cassette in the late 80's that I used to love falling asleep to, and I later converted it to mp3 (or maybe aac). It's from sometime b/w 80-82 I believe. It has all the warts you'd expect an analog cassette recording to have, but it's so good. I'll up it later if anyone is interested. Then again, it's probably readily available on the internets at this point, but let me know.

If your record store has a copy of this used or whatever, I highly recommend it for that '90 era JGB. Sounds great too.

I'll look for it.

I'm gonna look for any solo stuff that might be around on the interwebbernet, the stuff you and Jack are both referencing. I might end up taking you up on that cassette aud offer if I have no luck.

If you haven't listened to this yet.... the better of the two Bela tunes.

That solo show is two sets. An early show and a late show.

yeah, the one I was talking about is the 4-10-82 early show. just raw Jerry, at a time when he wasn't at his best, but it's so good

This Legion of Mary GarciaLive is some funky goodness

heck yeah it is. Merl Saunders' sound is just classic raspy blues. Love this sound with them together.

Glad you were able to grab the whole thing.

The colder weather and the seasonal change has me listening to more Primal Dead era stuff.

I don't know if this is a natural occurrence for you guys or not...
