The Official Beatles Thread

I did a search and I couldn't find a thread dedicated to The Beatles and I figured they deserved one. So let's start it.

I would just like to say that the band did have some great songs in the early days, despite being overshadowed by their later years.

I'm not a Beatles maniac, but the day I refer to them as "meh" will be a cold one in hell.

If Phish, Pearl Jam, Avett Brothers, Punch Brothers, Mumford & Sons, Ray LaMontange, a general Festivals thread, Amos Lee, Drive By Truckers, Hold Steady, and The Moondoggies can have one... the fucking Beatles certainly can.

Not getting shitty at all, just assuring MaLaKaS that it's all good.

Jesus, the meh was a joke. Although I'm not a huge Beatles fan, I do appreciate their stuff and really enjoy some of their songs.

Well The Beatles are generally regarded as one of the greatest and most influential bands of all time by practically everybody. So I thought it was obvious.

Which is fine. There is nothing wrong with a healthy debate.

Re: The Official Beatles Thread

Very few bands can claim their best album was also their last album.

The sad thing about the Beatles "bashers" is that they're usually the same morons that will turn right around and ballwash a band that probably pulls most of their best ideas from the Beatles catalogue. I don't mind someone saying that they don't really enjoy their music, but not being able to acknowledge the influence/impact they've had on music is pretty embarrassing.

I was gonna say pretty much this exactly. Thanks for doing it for me!

It's as cool to hate the Beatles as it is to like them.

I've finally discovered which albums I prefer in mono vs. stereo.

Mono

Please Please Me
With The Beatles
A Hard Day's Night
Rubber Soul
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Stereo

Beatles for Sale
Help!
Revolver
The Beatles

I don't think there are mono mixes of Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road or Let it Be.

Now this doesn't mean I don't prefer a mono track here and there over a stereo one (or vice-versa). For instance, Yesterday sounds a hell of a lot more intimate in mono. Or Help n mono sounds crushed compared with the stereo mix.

But overall, I've determined which mix I prefer for these mostly fantastic albums.
