The Gaslight Anthem

After seeing some brief chatter in the Bruce thread about this band, I thought they deserved a thread for discussion. One of my favorite bands making music right now. All 3 of their albums and their EP are just top notch. I've got all of them on vinyl including an awesome 7" of a Tumbling Dice cover and B-Side She Love You, which is an amazing song. No clue when they will be working on a new album, but they debuted a new tune called Biloxi Parish in Australia recently that just flat out rocks (video below). Discuss the greatness of The Gaslight Anthem here!

2nd maybe to DBT as the best current rock band around, and DBT just gets the edge because they've been around a little longer. gaslight's a fucking great live band as well.

I've yet to see them in concert, but cannot wait. From all the videos I've seen, they bring it hard every night.

Shit, you're about the 15th person to tell me how great DBT is. I may have to actually go check them out.

Agreed with the love for She Loves You. That, and Once Upon A Time (B-side from 59 Sound) are just outstanding, as good as anything on the albums.

Fallon has a new album coming out later this year, a side project called "Horrible Crowes", and he has said repeatedly that Gaslight will have a new album in 2012.

And yes, they are indeed great live. They played a 30 song set here in Dallas last year and it ripped.

Fallon has about 5 solo songs that you can get on the web, plus his former band has an EP called This Charming Man (on Itunes)....both are WELL worth getting.

Of lesser quality, there are 4 songs (or so) from another former band called Cincinnati Rail Tie, and a 16 song "album" called The Coffeehouse Sessions. For the completists.

Love me some Gaslight. Saw them at a bunch of basement shows in college. Highly recommend Titus Andronicus, another Jersey quasi punk band

I would also recommend Against Me! to fans of Gaslight. Much more straight punk, but melodic as hell, particularly their last 2 albums. Really cool band, and the singer is an interesting lyricist.

at least they don't even try to act like they can do the guitar breakdowns.

Damn, I just looked at some of their sets from the last month. The encore for 6/6/11 is fucking incredible:

She Loves You
The Patient Ferris Wheel
Boomboxes and Dictionaries
The Queen of Lower Chelsea
Film Noir
1930

1930 has to be some of the most beautiful lyrics set to an aggressive punk song

I've yet to see them live, which is just a damn shame. And yes, 1930 has an amazing set of lyrics. Just a great, great band. I really wish they got more recognition than they do.

Rollingstone.com has a stream of the first single from Fallon's side project "the Horrible Crowes" up on their front page. Album out Sept 6.
