Mike Doughty - The Heart Watches While the Brain Burns - October 14th

Quote:
Pre-Order

Mike Doughty is back with his ninth album "The Heart Watches While the Brain Burns." The
title is a nod to an episode of Marc Maron’s WTF! podcast.

The Heart Watches While the Brain Burns is the third collaboration between Doughty
and Queens, NY hip hop producer Good Goose and features some of his most mature
and realized songwriting to date. The elegant, charming album swerves between
lonesome country influences, and trap beats.

Doughty’s latest offering is the result of an exciting new chapter his life where he traded
the manic energy of New York City for the “fascinating” and “mysterious” allure of
Memphis, Tennessee.

Pre-Order now and receive "I Can't Believe I Found You in That Town" instantly after purchase. Full digital album download will be delivered 10/14/2016.

This is a pre-order that will arrive by 10/14/2016.

Hip-hop, eh? So basically, it's going to be more 'Stand Up' than 'Haughty Melodic?'

Did you listen to Stellar Motel? I feel like that's as hip hoppy as this will get. Based on the single I don't get the hip hop vibe at all.

I didn't. And I haven't heard the new single yet, I'll have to give it a whirl soon. His material has always been hit or miss for me, but I loved Haughty Melodic.

Is it possible to get the thread re-titled just "Mike Doughty" ?

Huh. I was really enjoying that track at first. I like the country vibe, nice melody line, but then it just gets stuck after the first verse and goes absolutely nowhere. I've been pretty down on Doughty's last few albums, and while this makes me curious, it doesn't make me feel all that confident.

I kind of agree, but I like it enough to give the album a shot.

So this is out now and I really, really like it. His best album in quite a while. Probably on par with Golden Delicious for me so far. I suggest checking it out.

I'll echo Nick's previous statement, can somebody change the thread title? It's currently about an album that came out 4 years ago.

Currently, "Brian" is getting the most play from me. Not the most conventional Doughty song and I initially didn't think I'd end up liking it - but that damn simple riff that kicks in is infectious.

The whole album feels so complete. His most thought out effort in a while.

I knew one of Trent Reznor's favorite bands was Soul Coughing but I didn't know that one of Howard Stern's favorite songs of all-time was Super Bon Bon. Pretty cool.

I saw Doughty tonight in LA. Really fucking great. I haven't seen him with a full band since Golden Delicious.

Wheatus is touring with him opening things up and then they serve as Doughty's band with Scrap of course. It was pretty rad.

I thought it was especially interesting what Mike kept saying about his latest album how he really thinks its good - and I know everyone says that about their new albums, but I really believed him the way he said. I don't know, it's hard to explain.

He played a good mix of Soul Coughing and solo stuff. I found Raging On to be especially nice. Opened with Lazybones and ended the night with True Dreams of Wichita. I'll post the full set once someone else posts it elsewhere.

Nice, I haven't seen him at all since Golden Delicious. I should look into seeing him again. I saw Soul Coughing twice in the 90s, those were great shows.
