Yeah, i just went through the almanac and the longest performance was 18 minutes (worcester 98) and most of the early ones included a prelude. In 2016 and 2010 it averaged 12ish minutes. If they cut down the build up and honestly play it the way they did in 1998/1999 (i do realize how ridiculous of an ask that is) it would be around 7-8 minutes. And its back to being a tight song, and their BEST live song.

Bruce Flohr was there last night. The Bay Area seems perfect for a douchebag like that

You know the story of the Lillywhite Sessions and then Everyday? Yeah, that was Flohr.

I'm well aware of that situation, but have we not moved past that? Nearly 20 years ago? The band had equal part in that decision as well and for all we know ED saved the band from breaking up in some strange way.

Yeah, anyone who thinks there's still bad blood between any of these guys with the LWS can't be serious. It's been 20 years and those bridges were burned years ago. Flohr was doing his job, the band had a deadline to meet and they weren't working well together.

If there was any doubt at all, when the band actually went back to work with Lillywhite in 2012, that told you that they were past all that debacle. The band was young back then, and probably put blame more on others than themselves.

At the end of the day, they were struggling (for whatever reason) to finish the record in time for the RCA deadline. They had no choice but to knock something out quickly to fulfill the obligation. And fulfill they did--with two major chart toppers (Everyday and Space Between) songs that charted some of the highest singles they ever released. The band might have resented the fact that Dave basically made a solo record with Ballard and it did better commercially than anything before. I'm sure there was some butthurt about that for sure.

I also think it changed the band's course a bit. When they put out Busted Stuff and it didn't do as well (Yes WAYG was a big hit, but that was it), clearly the band lost it's footing. No one knows why except them, but after that it took them 3 years to put out another album of new material, and it was SU (we know how that went). Then it another 4 years after that and a member dieing for them to release another record.

Their pace slowed down tremendously in terms of recording and they just never really recovered imo. They've made a lot of decent tracks over the past 15 years, but nothing close to the output they had prior to ED/LWS debacle. And I can see Dave's unwillingness to basically make another "busted stuff" with all scrapped or previously leaked material. Some songs are just better live and a studio rendition will always fall flat no matter how much effort they put into it.

I don't think there's any bad blood between Flohr and the band, but I can't say there isn't any between me, as a fan, and Flohr for his role in blowing up the LWS.

Also, there's definitely bad blood between Lillywhite and DMB to this day.

Yeah that why I was questioning Tamby calling him a douche.

Literally. That's all that ever comes to mind when I see or hear his name.

Funny enough, Grey Street has been played in favour of Billes for a long time.

Yeah but Grey Street now is cheap dime hooker compared the LS early 2000/200 versions.

I always thought the final version of Grey Street is amazing. To me the lyrics he nailed down are great. It's a top tier DMB song that's just unfortunately been cut up and stripped of all the things that made it great in the first place.

Even if they kept the Busted Stuff lyrics and extended the jam just a bit, akin to the 2000 versions, it'd be a monster "power slot" song, closing shows and sending people home happy.

Now? It's just....eh.
