I always enjoy a good cover from a band, but there's something about DMBs note for note type covers like Sledgehammer, BDTH, etc. that just end up sounding like bad karaoke to me. I much prefer the stuff where they put some more of their own spin on it.

Always wanted them to put their spin on 'Madman Across the Water.' Even moreso now with Buddy.

Let's be honest... It's good karaoke. Good karaoke is still significantly below bad original performances.

But you have to admit, you have never seen karaoke at the level of DMB doing Sledgehammer (or even Dave singing Sledgehammer to relate it to karaoke with just the singing...).

You clearly haven't heard my cover of Hunger. That's some real karaoke.

Local DMB cover band played BTCS front to back, album style last weekend. This is pretty damn good:

I found that singer slightly less annoying than every other lead singer of a DMB cover band. But props to the guy on the violin for taking on the Kronos arrangement.

I find his voice to be just as annoying....but he’s definitely passionate and a huge fan, so can’t fault him there. The band itself is really solid, for the most part. I’m not going out of my way to see them; but enjoy what he posts to YouTube on occasion.

The fact that he's wearing monitors kind of bugs me.

he's probably wearing them because Dave does and he's being "authentic."

Wearing IEMs? Why does that bug you in an age where anyone smart or savvy is moving to them/has already been on them for years?

Man I hate DMB tribute bands. That being said, the last couple I've heard have violinists that can play circles around Boyd.

It's startling how much better pretty much any professional violinist is than Boyd. DMB was definitely able to maximize his talent and get the most out of him given his severe limitations. It's crazy to think what a legitimately great player would sound like in the band.

It's not even just the skill, it's the tone and confidence of the playing. Like listening to Railroad Earth, or Yonder Mountain play small clubs with great sounding, although not perfect violin players, then huge amphitheatres with Boyd.
