I'm pretty torn on it.

I think Machado is a great player and will help any team he goes to, I'm just not certain it's the move that puts THIS cubs team over the top. They haven't hit their stride yet, but I think they will. I'd hate to dump a ton of prospects for a half a season of the guy.

I think the Cubs are going to be big players in Harper this offseason. At a bare minimum, they are a competitive team that has the money to throw at him. In terms of extra incentive - he's mentioned many times how much he likes Chicago and Wrigley Field (his dog is named Wrigley). He's old friends with Kris Bryant. I don't think in and of itself those matter, but coupled with the fact the Cubs can spend as much as anyone gets me pretty excited. Theo knows how to recruit a player and they have a real shot of pulling it off.

So I'd rather roll the dice with this Cubs roster + go hard for Harper than blow it out for Machado.

We'll see

Unrelated note: I scored a pair of free tickets for Rockies-Angels tonight. Finally get to see Trout in a regular season game + first time I've seen Pujols in person since like 2008. Hopefully Ohtani pinch hits.

Someone here is going to Sox-Yankees tonight I think. Whoever that is, enjoy!

Tyler Austin has an option so he'll go down and they can lose the last guy in the pen. Hopefully Ellsbury just keeps developing new ailments and never comes back.

I can't believe the Mets actually found a trade for Harvey. The Reds couldn't wait 3 more days?

Welcome to the AL Central where nobody is above .500 and 17-18 is good enough for first place.

Go Tribe!

Aaaaaannnd they just sank lower. Losing the series to the fucking Reds, making it 9 losses in last 10 games.

Remember when NYC was the Mets' city for like 2 years. That was fun

I also remember when it was the Mets city in the mid to late 80's. That was REALLY fun.

Mets are a mess now. Their rebuild under Alderson and Co. has to be considered a failure, at least partly b/c they didn't commit to a full rebuild. Their WS appearance in 2015 was not the result of the rebuild, it was them arriving earlier than expected mainly b/c of getting crazy hot for 2 months after the Cespedes trade. Most of the guys who contributed to that run were products of the Minaya years. I would swap rosters with the Phillies or Braves in a heartbeat.

We're like a 1/4 of the way through the season. A few things that standout to me:

Only 4 teams in the NL have a losing record - including the Dodgers at 9 under!
We're seeing some good baseball in places like Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Colorado that are somewhat surprising.

No team in the AL Central is over .500
Only 5 teams in the AL are over .500.

We're seeing good baseball in places like Seattle and Anaheim that's somewhat surprising. (Seattle has the longest playoff drought in baseball, having not reached the postseason since 2001 when they won 116 games).

The Ohtani experiment has been successful thus far. He's hitting and pitching well.

The new mound visit rule hasn't caused too many issues, and apparently games are about 5 minutes shorter this season thus far.

Umpiring remains embarrassing every single night.

Personally, Cubs have meandered a bit. Bryant looks like a MVP contender, but Rizzo has struggled. Haven't been able to get Yu Darvish going either. I'm not worried about Rizzo and I'm pretty confident Darvish is going to be fine.

The AL Central is just...

well, at least Cleveland is doing well by one metric: being first place in the worst division in baseball.

It's so early, a lot of things are going to even out. But I'd say I'm most surprised by how much of a disaster the Dodgers are.

Here is a question for you guys: what percentage of teams that have hit a grand slam in a game have then gone on to win that game?

My guess is 65-75%.

The reason I bring this up is that the Indians have hit three grand slams this season and have lost all three of those fucking games.

Yea that's nuts, I'd definitely guess around 75%. Tough luck.

I don't know what the actual number is but I would bet around 80%?

To lose all 3 is definitely rare and flukey.
