If I had to recommend 5 shows to someone just starting out, this is and was always in that list, but yeah, it is subjective.

A list of Top 5 all-time DMB shows is really, really subjective. That said, I'd imagine this has a better shot than most to be on people's lists.

Can we get that list? I'm curious?

I also love this show because much like the rest of the Flecktone-related shows that month, there a number of really awesome performances that had absolutely nothing to do with Bela or Jeff. Recently from 6/7, Jimi from 6/12, Drive in Drive out from 6/13, Leave me Praying from 6/10, ASTB from 6/13, and many more. But of course one of the most famous was #41 on 6/9 (Letterman). Couple all that with The flecktone guest spots and it just makes that run even better.

It gets overlooked often because the song selection was so narrow that summer, but for me there are few tours in the band’s history where they sounded as consistently good as Summer ‘97.

Best 5 released shows for someone starting out:

Red Rocks 95
Live Trax 1 - 12/5/98
Central Park
Live in AC

I guess throw in this 97 show? But maybe a 2000 show in there somewhere.

I feel like LT 3 should be on that list. But I also think that it’s the best show they’ve ever released.

What? I guess if youíre trying to do a career spanning thing but if weíre just talking best AC never enters the conversation.

Yeah AC is nowhere near that list. If you’re trying to do a 3.0 show, I’d probably do the Pittsburgh 09 or CVille 10 show in its place.

I’d say:

Red Rocks
this release
LT 1
LT 3
Central Park
one of the two above (or maybe even Rio 08)

Yeah, I wouldn’t have any problem with that list. Rio is a good 3.0 show to add.

But Boyd really shined on 6/13's Seek Up. His solo was subtle and felt like it had meaning and direction and not just used a staircase for Dave's wail.
I feel like the Seek Up from 6/8 has the subtlety from Boyd too.. It's always been one of my favorite versions but to be fair I've listened to it much more than the others from that tour

Hartford used to be a pretty safe bet for a good show.. it went downhill after 2000 unfortunately minus a couple shows here and there. 2003 was definitely the low point when Dave informed the band he was touring solo for Some Devil

Two hartford shows on this list and no SPAC. Nothing wrong with your list, but just an interesting observation.

Also more of a reflection on the fact that the SPAC shows that really rank havent been released.

Surprised nobody has mentioned LT 7 yet...is this upcoming release better than that one?

I don't think I'd put it in my top 5, but I always thought LT 8 was a good release. LT 20 as well. I think listener supported is also an underrated release.

Yeah, including this one I donít think thereís any way to argue that the released Hartford shows top the SPAC ones. 2000, maybe, but the 1996 SPAC show vs. this one is no contest.

Oh wow, I totally forgot about the 2000 SPAC show thats released for a minute. Thats one of my favorite shows, but i dont think of it as really a 2000 show. At least not one that at all highlights the Lillywhite Sessions.

My favorite released 3.0 show is Scranton, 2010, followed closely by AC Night 3 followed closely by Pittsburgh 2009 N2.

Just so happened that I attended all three.

It's funny in 2004 when I asked for recommendations the LT series didn't even exist yet, so I got a very different list of recommendations. All tapes of old shows of course. Plenty of AUDs were recommended to me back then, but some of the were really good quality (SPAC N2 '02 for instance).

My favorite show to listen to, and it'll likely never change:

7/13/00

Just classic.
