The problem with 2012 is the heavy play of AFTW throughout the sets and almost all of those songs are really not great live. 60% of that album is as mellow as it gets

Really hated that tour. The playing was awful. Boyd’s worst year by far.

2013 is at least very close. See: Crush on the last Live Trax.

I'd argue that the following years were worse for Boyd:

1999
2003
2014
2015

And 2013 was on par with 2012 for him, that's not to say one was worse than the other.

Definitely not 1999 or 2003. At least in those years he remembered his parts, even if he played them terribly, and there are shows from both years where he's basically on point (the live releases we have from each year, for instance). There are no good Boyd shows from 2012-2015.

Dave Matthews Band
June 30, 2012
Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Bethel, NY

Spoiler:
Grace Is Gone
Eh Hee
If Only
Minarets
Seek Up
Shake Me Like a Monkey
Proudest Monkey »
Satellite
The Riff
Seven
Funny the Way It Is
Mercy
Typical Situation
Gaucho
Jimi Thing
Corn Bread
Pantala Naga Pampa »
Rapunzel
-----------------------------------
Little Thing [partial] »
So Much to Say »
Grey Street

Solid 3.0 show with a pretty diverse setlist. Some pretty big highlights all throughout. I really like GIG as an opener, it's different, but the crowd still gets into it. This version was okay - no horns, Tim was great, and BT was ok. Good Eh Hee, If Only, and Minarets. Seek Up was pretty outstanding. Dave's yell in the outro was absolutely incredible and tremendously chilling. The highlight of the show for me.

SMLAM is a hilarious follow up to Seek Up, but at least it wasn't in a power slot. Something about this Proudest really clicked with me. Jeff and Tim were outstanding and this performance created a really warm vibe that carried through Satellite.

Next we get an early version of the Riff, which was decent. Bad slotting for Seven midset. Normally this would be poor slotting for FTWII too, but this versions featured the extended intro which was an absolute gamechanger, Dave sounded fantastic. Mercy kept the run of newer material rolling, a very relaxing version - I do love the end jam. Repetitive but serene.

Typical was reliably solid and I really enjoyed hearing a live version of Gaucho. The rest of the show really isn't too noteworthy - I guess For What It's Worth in Jimi was nice and the Little Thing tease was good. SMTS Carter solo Grey Street wasn't a smooth transition, unfortunately. Good 2012 listen though.

Live Trax Desire: LOW
Show Rating: ***1/4

I'd like to get in on these, but I don't download/torrent or any of that stuff.

Is MeetAtShow my best option for streaming? Thanks

Isn't it incredible how far tech has come? Never would have imagined access would be this easy back when we were in the b&p days.

I was going to say that exact thing in my reply, too.

oh perfect, thanks

Yeah I remember going to internet arranged pre-show party in Albany winter '98 and they were playing the philly show from previous week.

Mind was blown again at Foxboro '99 getting handed my first bootleg cd from a previous show that tour.

and I've since dropped out from the tech side of it all, though I think I napstered the Lillywhite sessions.

All Along the Watchtower

What a setlist! I listened blind and was continuously impressed with the slotting of songs here - a rare PFWYG, Pig, late set Seek Up Heartbeat PNP Rapunzel, and Recently following. One of the best sets from 1999, imo.

Onto the performances. OSW is an always welcome opener and this one was solid. This #41 had a jazzy, more laid back feel at one point during LeRoi's solo. Rhyme/Billies was a nice juxtaposition, boyd rocked Billies. On DIDO, something is botched in the outro - I will have to listen again but I thought Dave stopped playing his part on guitar, so Carter's drumming sounded more emphasized.

PFWYG was a beautiful version, Roi and Carter find this little ditty that they simultaneously hit in the end of the sax solo leading into the "we tend to walk away from difficulty..." lyrics. Good version for sure. This was a more polished version of Pig for a 1999er, though not as good as the 6/28 one in MKE from the week prior.

Onto the two major highlights for me - Seek Up and Two Step. This Seek Up is so goddamn good and it made me so happy to hear. All of the solos and Dave's wail were stellar. Add in the fact that it was a late set version with the segue into Heartbeat and PNP/Rapunzel and that really made me happy. There is something about a late set Heartbeat that I find really relaxing and contemplative - it's a good moment to enjoy a Roi solo, reflect on the show you've already heard and anticipate the finish.

Speaking of the finish, after a vintage Recently, Two Step hits with this fantastic Dave intro with Noah's ark imagery. "I swear the rain will come...we'll sail the world until the storm washes us away" etc. Great version, especially at a time where they were really in the pocket with those Dave/Carter driven outros. Excellent, keeper version. Good enough #40 and Watchtower to finish a great show. Another good pick!

Hey everybody. I know that I disappeared from this thread a few months ago. My sincerest apologies for that. Life got a little crazy and I fell behind. I would like to catch up big time in here though. I think I left off with the 6.17.04 show. Would it be ok if I post reviews retroactively in here? I don’t want to confuse anyone though. Thanks.

Anybody want to listen to 8/11/95 with me? Haven't touched that one in a while and I've been listening to a lot of '94 and '95 and want to listen to some more.

I'm finishing up 6.17.04 tonight and will post my review. I'll catch up on the other shows quickly. No worries. My reviews may have to be shorter though (as opposed to the song-by-song breakdown that I normally do) until I am caught up. The past few months have been crazy and I never thought I would have gotten this far behind. But things are getting easier again, so I should have no problem keeping up with this going forward.
