I haven’t listened to enough yet to make an educated comment, but in the rehearsal video he posted he was using an actual Hammond B-3 organ. That’s the classic, originator of that sound. If he doesn’t sound right on it, then he’s doing it wrong.

Maybe his organ just needs a little maintenance. They should start at the top, and just work their way until its clean right down to the base. But make sure to leave the feet a little dirty.

Are you judging that from the tapes and periscope?

If so, that's probably not fair.

side note
I heard that bkdkdkdd was originally called full jerk but due to the band learning of certain things they originally were "not knowing" of, it was changed

As much as I hate keys in this band, I would have to agree. It also seems that the injection of youth (insert Boyd joke here) in the band has given them a shot in the arm...totally unlike what I expected and predicted after the whole Boyd thing. Well done.

How many shows before we turn on this guy?

Organ almost every single song. He reminds me of Robert Randolph, just plays meandering stuff over the song with no respect for the structure of the song. Several songs sound like he’s just holding down the organ keys for the whole song. Then he’s always sliding across the keyboard. Piano in Warehouse is decent but his piano playing is so timid, could barely hear him on Steady As We Go (for example). I was thinking it about it and the members of DMB (except Dave) all have jazz backgrounds - that’s what makes it work

I think heís really low in the mix, which is a problem and not his fault. And give the guy a chance to adjust, he literally joined a couple weeks ago and has played 3 shows with them, including tons of songs heís probably never even listened to before. Too early to judge him as a player or as a new member.

I feel like the only real complaint I’ve seen about him is that the organ is overbearing for certain songs. If he switches to piano for those I’d guess that he’l get through the tour without a lot of blowback.

Satellite and Granny are two songs I'm not sold on his playing yet. Otherwise I think he's been good to great on almost every song. We'll see if he has staying power. I think he does.

His playing puts Tim on the back burner a bit and has him playing jazzier, slower solos. See #41. So not only does Buddy sound good himself, his overall presence is improving the sound of the band.

If he just lays down two full elbow chords loudly over the entirety of That Girl Is You, he wins the band.
