Phish will air a 1997 show featuring Roi next Tuesday

Now we can watch Roi on Tuesday AND Wednesday.

Tuesday at 5:30pm EST. [Only registered users can see links.]

Setlist: [Only registered users can see links.]

The jam out of Theme, as well as Funky Bitch, featured LeRoi Moore on saxophone. The jam with LeRoi included a segment where he played two saxes, Trey played three guitars, Mike played two basses and the Crackliní Rosie cymbals, Fish had four drumsticks and Page was lying across his keyboards playing as many as possible. LeRoi also teased the Woody Woodpecker theme during the jam.

The day after Roi died Trey posted this:

When Phish played Virginia Beach in 1997, LeRoi came on stage and started playing three saxophones at once and set off the most hilarious chain of events. Within minutes Page was playing four of his keyboards with his hands and feet and I had three guitars on and drumsticks in my hand banging on Fish’s drums. and Mike was playing two basses. It was just a phenomenal moment! And I remember LeRoi laughing with his mouth full of saxophones. _
We miss you LeRoi and thank you for the joy you brought all of us.

If you want to hear the tracks, they are on the Forever Moore compilation we put together, but I've also upload them here:

For anyone who is curious, Boyd also guested with them once (outside of the dmb guest spots) on YEM at Walnut Creek back in 1995 and they released that as a bonus track a few years back.

This must've been a crazy time for fans of this type of music. You had the Grateful Dead end in 95, then this world where DMB and Phish are just in the wing and start taking over and touring nonstop. Then you even other bands like moe., String Cheese Incident and Widespread Panic. They never reached the DMB/Phish level, but still were popular.

I was too young experience it, but I guess I did know the DMB radio hits. Really pumped for 2nd set!

Yes Phish is keeping these up on YouTube.

Most Phish fans agree that 1997-2000 is their peak. I've always thought it interesting that DMB's peak aligns pretty closely with that. DMB's probably extends to 2002, maybe 2004... and Phish was certainly still killing it in those years, only with a hiatus thrown in from 2001-2002.

Then there are fans who prefer Phish's slightly more raw, fast-paced sound of 1995. Same with DMB. They definitely seemed to evolve musically on similar timelines.
