Can anyone please tell me what I have stuck in my head now, really curious....ty

If we do eventually find out MacHead is an early DOOF I'm going to lose my mind now.

Honestly this whole thing got me thinking yesterday, “what if MacHead sucks?”

Would it taint how we view the BTCS sessions even in the slightest? What if we’re better off never having heard it and just letting BTCS always be this perfect thing until the day we all die?

If they worked on a song that wasn’t good enough to make the album but made the right decision to abandon it, then it definitely wouldn’t change my opinion of the sessions at all. Not every idea is a good one, but being able to tell the difference is a big part of being great. The loss of that ability is one of the main causes of the band’s decline in my opinion.

I wonder why they never went back to it? If they were having a tough time finishing the LWS, you'd think they'd be all over a song they they already wrote and put music too, especially if it was being strongly considered for an album as flawless as BTCS.

was it ever confirmed that #40 was actually recorded in studio during BTCS sessions?

I believe that Machead is the only song that has ever been confirmed to have been worked on, but left off of, BTCS.

I think if it was, we would have seen more concrete lyrics in the performances after the album. It never really changed or evolved much, so I wouldn't imagine it was ever really laid down. Would have made for a great commercial on the album though.

Help Myself was definitely recorded, but ultimately ended up in the Scream 2 Soundtrack.

Others rumored were #40 and Get In Line.

That’s true, but my understanding was that the were never considering Help Myself for the album, they just recorded it for the soundtrack after they decided that they didn’t want to use Halloween for it.

I believe Lillywhite said they recorded Help Myself with the intent of putting it on the album, but they recorded Halloween and it turned out much better than expected and they didn’t want to “waste” that track on a movie release, so they gave them Help Myself instead.

If it sucks

Honestly I'm sure it will be underwhelming when we finally do hear it, it's just so hyped at this point it can't live up to it.

Nothing's going to taint my view of those sessions though.

Around the time of the 99 D&T tour, I swear there was intel from someone known to be close to the band that 40 was definitely worked on during the sessions.

I seem to remember that person saying that the lyrics to the version played in January (1/19/99 maybe?) were the working lyrics on the studio version. Haven’t listened to that show in a long time but I recall the lyrical approach to be a bit different from the historical performances at the time.
