The issue is the owners want to negate a deal they struck with the players and go to a partial revenue-sharing model. Which ultimately would cost the players $$.

The players/owners agreed to a prorated contract in March. So if you were supposed to make 10m over 162 games (it's about 61,700 per game), you'd make 61,700*total number of games in abbreviated season. In this case, a little over 5mil for a 82 game season. The owners want a 50-50 revenue split which would end up being less money for the players.

The problem is not all of the money owners make go into that fund. So unless the owners decide to start sharing all of their profits from things like MLB Advanced Media (they won't), then the players shouldn't agree to a revenue share.

I don't want to sidetrack this with my anti-owner sentiment I just would like to see the owners deal more honestly with the players. The owners may temporarily make a little less money this year, but they'll make it back one way or another in the future.
Yeah, I mean I do think the owners should just honor the prorated contract already agreed upon and just take the hit. It's really either that or they will lose even more money from losing the TV money. However, most teams in baseball really don't make much of their money from TV contracts, it's not like the NFL. Teams like Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox etc. can afford to do that, but other teams rely a lot on their ballparks and ticket sales for revenues. This is the reason why they they are pushing revenue shared deal.

The Marlins, for example, have already lost out on millions because the World Baseball Classic was canceled. They were supposed to host the semi finals and finals.

I can see how the majors will survive because of TV revenue. But how in the heck are minor league teams gonna survive?

Only with the help of MLB affiliates. There's no way they're playing a season whatsoever this year, also.

Not sure how this works, but I think I read that the minor league seasons are completely scrapped for 2020. They'll cherry-pick players from another source (again I forget the details). 2021 cannot come soon enough.

Yeah, no minor leagues this year. Looks like they’re talking about 30-man active rosters and a 20-man “taxi squad” that works out at the home spring training site.

MLB will move forward with eliminating minor league squads. We’re going to lose two minor league teams here in Colorado.

The Louisville Bats should be fine. They have a strong following and Louisville Slugger sponsors them. The city won't let them die. But teams like the Lexington Legends? They were facing being shut down before this happened

Yeah the bats will weather the storm alright. You bring up a good point on Lexington. They are full season which helps a bit.

It’s the short season A teams that are really in trouble.

Mitch did you end up grabbing OOTP? I’ve been playing - it’s not the easiest game to pick up

I did buy it, waste of money basically, played with it for a couple days and dropped it, too intensive for me. I just want to watch, and gamble on, baseball

Dinos are 8-1, boys!

Speaking of OOTP, a buddy of mine invited me to this group of listeners to a baseball podcast. There are 18 of us and we’ve used Facebook messenger to draft a team using historical seasons from the integration era, pick a guy and a year, and once drafted, they’re plugging the entire thing into OOTP and popping 14 “all time” teams in to make 32 teams and running a season. Draft is almost done, my team is shaping up nicely.

You need some Cubs

That’s cool though. I’m trying to understand the game better but there’s way too much going on. It’s been overwhelming.

There are three Cubs fans in the group, they’re reaching.

What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for? He had 30 home runs, and over 100 RBIs last year. He's got a rocket for an arm. You don't know what the hell you're doin'!
