She

I think we have a good one here.

Like the grunge, and like Dave's normal vocal range and delivery. Great chorus hook. Still unclear on a lot of the lyrics but they're passing the smell test. No cheese folks, no cringe.

Thoughts?

Now that I hear a better recording of it I like it. The first note or two of the chorus reminds me of the chorus of STP's Wicked Garden.

To the Pearl Jam comparison made earlier, something about this reminds me of You Are: [Only registered users can see links.]

It's not cheese like So Right (guilty pleasure) although ED was definitely in the pop realm. This feels grunge like a tune you'd hear at some shit hole dump in downtown Seattle. And that's kinda good

I'm just really happy to have a song I'm not embarrassed by and has some fucking fire behind it. And the lyrics seem interesting enough to care about them. Seems a kind of dark love song. I'm not sure Dave can attempt a classic-sounding DMB song that isn't cringe in 2018. Isn't that most of the rest of the album?

It has potential for sure. Hopefully Dave can resist the temptation to turn it into an ass-shaker

Not a bad song. I like the horns. Lyric is bland, but not cheesy. Should have taken the place of Can't Stop as it's basically about the same thing. Then they could've put Bismarck after it. (Interestingly, they both contain the word hypnotize.)

Obviously seeing new stuff live and in the moment is tough to judge, but it was the least favorite of everything I’ve seen the past two nights. Just a generic rock song with a generic band behind it.

My rough take on the lyrics.

Quote:
she hypnotize me with her moves
she collects the stars ... ?
she might say she don't but then she do
she before I wake her with a thing I know there

aint no god or man could kill the burning fire
she is bored in the middle of my soul
if you wait too long to taste, the ju-ju is gone
the lights are off, you have run out of time

she will fill my bones and veins
she the poison that will save you
she collects the laughter and the tears too
she burns down the barns/bars sets your fears free

aint no god or man could kill the burning fire
she is bored in the middle of my soul
if you wait too long to taste, the ju-ju is gone
the lights are off, you have run out of time

she makes me feel like I'm going under
she a spell I cannot break no wonder
she will leave the master in her womb?
she still hypnotize me with her moves, she know there -

aint no god or man could kill the burning fire
she is bored in the middle of my soul
if you wait too long to taste, the ju-ju is gone
the lights are off, you have run out of time
Reading through these it does seem more of a surface lust song than I thought at first. Gweeps make a decent point how this may be similar in meaning to Can't Stop, though I think these lyrics handily win.

Hey all. I'm back in DMBc after a few days off. I really like the music on this one and Dave's vocals do remind me of PJ. The song has a nice hook, but I still need to take in the lyrics first. I'll listen to it more tomorrow and then pass make an opinion on it. Thanks for sharing this Typsitch .

Well this is easily the best song they’ve come up with in quite some time, probably since AFTW. I like this a lot and Buddy absolutely destroys the jam/solo. Surprised not to get a wailing Tim solo on such a heavy song, but it’s nice to hear a change of pace with the Clavinet. I can tell it’s definitley going to be one of the best tracks on the album for sure. This is kind of the sound I think 3.0 should be going for and it’s great to finally hear a song that’s somewhat exciting and upbeat for a live show. There’s been too many quiet mellow ones lately. This one cooks.

I don’t really hear PJ that much in this really, to me it seems more like an old school 70s prog song, especially lyrically. Almost like something king crimson would write. Listen to 21st Century Schizoid Man and then She. Very similar vibe. Makes sense since Dave brought up Yes recently, he’s probably been listening to some more of this kind of proggy stuff as of late.

On first listen, I enjoyed it. Not really something that I thought I’d ever want to hear from DMB, but it’s different, and lyrically it’s not preachy or labored (at least I don’t think it is. I couldn’t hear the lyrics that well). It’s one of the first songs I can think of since BW that seems like it was written with the 3.0 lineup in mind. The solo on the keys was great, but makes me wonder what happens on the album version (Batson solo?). It’s not the kind of song that I’d ever hope to hear, but I wouldn’t be unhappy to see it pop up.

Someone in another thread suggested it sounds like Creed. I think it’s more like Creed trying to sound like Pearl Jam.
