Go listen to June 2008

They were in such a good groove and hitting such a peak, right before Roi's accident.

You've got Tim's first extended touring with the full band in over a decade - fitting in seamlessly with the band's sound at the time. He pushed them to another level compared to their playing from 2005-2007. A lot of songs - Bayou, Cornbread, So Damn Lucky - were really opened up and stretched out with Tim's presence. (that sounds dirty taken out of context)

The setlists are well-constructed and flow seamlessly between eras. Dreaming Tree and Shotgun in regular rotation, #40 and Water/Wine bustouts, some all-time versions of Two Step and Seek Up.

Then there's the influx of fun new covers: the Money>Money encore, Sledgehammer, Hey Hey My My, Bitch.

In some ways it reminds me of the Spring '02 tour, in that their sound seemed to dramatically change in a positive direction. Great stuff.

I think the 2008 tour would make a fabulous documentary. Peaks and valleys.

Everyone on these forums is well aware how great June 2008 is. It's certainly not underrated. Agree with everything you said, and will add that it was such a reinvigorating and awesome time to be a fan. Though I was still upset about Butch's departure at the time, no one was complaining about having Tim back full time. And now I've seen more DMB shows with Tim than I have with Butch...which back in 2007 wasn't even a possibility in my mind.

I think it's the biggest turning point in the band's career...right up there with LWS and ED. June 2008 started 3.0. I loved it a lot because it reminded me a little bit of D+F which I really enjoyed how much those guys mixed it up, had fun playing together and just brought pure energy to the stage...and that's what Tim helped to do. June 2008 was a fun time to catch some shows, glad I was able to see a few.

Mansfield N1 was one of my favorites.

Those roi/tim crush duels were something else. Very fun time to be a fan.

I kind of wish I had seen more than 3 shows that month. One of them was arguably the worst of the run (6.18.08), but boy am I happy I was at the tour openers (5/30 + 5/31). Especially the second night. Every song played at those shows was exciting and fresh, Some Devil tunes were played full band for the first time, surprising covers came out of nowhere (Money > Money, Thank You, Melissa) and old songs blew me away how re-invigorated they were (YMDT, Cornbread, Rhyme & Reason, Two Step, LIOG)

SPAC N2 from then (6/21 I think?) remains one of my favorite shows I've been to.

One of my favorite years of DMB, specifically June. I never thought I'd see Bela and Tim on the same stage together with Dave and then 6/6 happened. I'd love a release of that show or anything else from that first month.

Even the months after Roi's injury and death were really exciting. Jeff stepping up to the plate immediately and taking Roi's place was special, especially for the couple of months where we thought Roi would be coming back.

Yeah the only quibble I'd have looking at that 6/18 show is a mid-set Sister. Everything else looks good.

I caught those two but missed out on Hey Hey My My which I really wanted... can't get it all I suppose.

I caught 6 shows that summer. 2 in June with Roi. 2 in July with Jeff. 2 in August with Jeff.

It was awesome. Band hasn't been the same since, sadly.

I was at 4 of those shows, both Mansfield and the Hartford and SPAC N2s. So much good stuff at those shows.

Hartford 2: First ever Bartender opener, first extended SDL, Roi's last Maker and Pay For
SPAC 2: That Dreaming Tree, Shotgun, the last ADSR, #40, and that LIOG is seriously underrated (phenomenal Boyd solo, maybe his last great solo IMO) and the LIOG reprise>>SDL was a phenomenal E1
Mansfield 1: Excellent Proudest and Crush, Bitch, The "Green Acres" Cornbread, killer Rapunzel > Ants to close the main set
Mansfield 2: A legitimate best-ever contender Loving Wings (busted out of nowhere no less), and a main set that ends with Seek Up/Two Step.

That loving wings needs to be released. When Tim comes in with that leslie sound it takes a turn that is so joyful. Such an amazing concert moment for sure.

Also, the early set Jimi and Bayou were pretty fun to hear as well.

I'd very much like to see the Loving Wings from 8.19.08 get a SBD release. Amazing performance.

That YMDT opener was actually the best version I've still ever seen live. Really incredible, and at the time pretty novel and fresh. My big beef with the set was the best 3 songs that followed. Dreaming Tree and So damn Lucky afterwards were incredible though. Encore was fun too. Sister, OSW and Stolen Away ruined the middle of the show though. Overall the show was way too up and down. But given that it was June 2008, there was a lot to love even in this lacking setlist.
