You waited so long to give it back because you used it to soothe you to sleep.

I was pretty excited for the Recently EP vinyl mentioned in the relix article. After doing r2t correctly, why would they botch this?

![]() edit: also, r2t correctly? Was it sourced at something higher? (Doby just told me not to rip any DMB vinyl in anything higher than 24/48 because everything they've put out is sourced from 44.1/16, save for BWGK, which I was not aware of) |

I don't know why people would just assume CD to Vinyl. Someone should try to confirm that first.

Well, I'm basing my assumption on the fact that they're putting UTTAD and Crash on their DMB PonoPlayer at 44.1/16... which would be the highest thing you could get out of those masters apparently, so this means.... their masters don't go higher than this?

This article seems to have sources that say recently is for RSD and UTTAD will be a wide release.

I hear ya. Who knows. I love speculation as much as the next guy, but I'd rather wait for official word on this one.

I would guess they're definitely right about UTTAD being a wide release because ED are listing it as Sony/Legacy...same as R2T.

Shame with all that amazing info from @Sillywhite that we didn't find out some detailed technical info on the recording. I'd love to know whether it was ONLY recorded to 16/44.1 (first 24-bit recording is generally accepted as Pat Metheny in 1996) or to tape or simultaneously to tape and digital. R2T was a mishmash of sources but the original sounds so good anyway that it's a master that works well on any medium...didn't need a separate vinyl mastering. |

I've followed the wax poetic blog for the last 4-5 RSD releases and they've always been pretty spot on...I'm just hoping its a big pressing like the last few live trax. I gotta figure it also gets a warehouse release as well.

That's really cool that it will come with the "pumpkin" version of Recently as well.

I wouldn't get too excited about that. I've seen one source for that, and it seemed pretty confused. EDIT: I guess it's confirmed now, so now I'm officially excited about it.

Not saying that it's not happening, just that the blog that said that it could used the word "might" a lot.

The store and desktop hub will launch at the DreamForce conference in San Francisco on October 13th somewhere around Neil's keynote speech at the event (which will be webcast). The players pre-ordered through kickstarter will start shipping during the last week of the month, the DMB LEs included (if you're familiar, only select early LE units were available to reserve for October, after so many were ordered, they bumped other LE models back to December due to the limited first production run). I agree about the Sillywhite stuff... they're keeping a pretty tight lid on it if it exists in anything higher. Pono has had to go straight to the artists in a lot of cases to get the highest quality masters for these LEs, going passed the 'label barrier'. Metallica is the best example of this, they own all of their masters, and gave a couple up for their own Pono LE. You'd think, if something like this exists, they'd be able to get their hands on it for the DMB Pono, instead of putting out the 16/44. Perhaps they're holding it back for a 'more meaningful' re-issue? 25 year mark? Although... why would they be releasing it on vinyl now if that were the case? This is all speculative of course... what we do best around here. |

Just got a response from Steve Lillywhite regarding the original recording sessions for UTTAD:
@Sillywhite with the vinyl announcement of UTTAD can you comment on source lineage? Was this recorded simultaneous to tape or just 16/44.1? @dobyblue i was not in the loop of this. so i cannot comment. @Sillywhite Hi Steve, sorry I meant the ORIGINAL recording sessions, were they done simultaneously to tape, just digital or just tape? THX! @dobyblue analogue all the way! Let's hope, pray, whatever, that when the full product description is announced that we discover the vinyl has been done from the original analogue master tape!! In light of this I'm now looking at the DMB Pono with a crooked "wtf" look. Still will hope that the mastering is different otherwise they sold snake oil. |
