Local FOX affiliate WFXR-TV in Richmond reported that one shooting occurred between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, and another at 10 a.m. at Norris Hall.
Virginia Tech student Blake Harrison said he was on his way to class near Norris Hall when he saw chaos.
"This teacher comes flying out of Norris, he's bleeding from his arm or his shoulder ... all these students were coming out of Norris trying to take shelter in Randolph [Hall]. All these kids were freaked out," Harrison said.
The students and faculty were barricading themselves in their classrooms after what one person described as an Asian student wearing a vest opened fire.
The shooter was "wearing a vest covered in clips was just unloading on their door, going from classroom to classroom … they said it never seemed like it was going to stop and there was just blood all over," Harrison said

My daughter is at Tech. Thankfully she called and is in her dorm safe. i feel sick though, thinking that there will be 20 someodd other sets of parents that won't be able to say the same thing.

This is pretty crazy. A person posted about the initial shooting right after it happened on another forum I read, and it didn't really seem like a huge deal.

Yeah, I went online at 11:15 at my school and it said that there was one person dead, a few hurt, and the shooter was in custody. I checked back maybe an hour later and there were 20 dead. (And now its close to 30)

No one can possibly comprehend senseless slaughter such as this, and I really hate it when people, media forces, have to have this instantaneous analysis that calls for blame to be placed on something or someone so we can make sense of it, we can't. I have to turn off the tv or I will become sick. All I can do is pray for the victims and their families. Such a sad day . . . 4/16/07.

I totally agree with this. People don't understand the thoughts and steps a campus must undergo in situations like this, and if students would have been notified right away, potentially many more students could have lost their lives. Chaos could have erupted, and the shooter(s) could have really gone ultra-psycho. The shooter had more than 30+ rounds on him. He chained the doors shut on the inside of the building he rampaged. Just. horrific. And my heart really goes out to the RAs and Hall Directors who have to stay on campus and will be dealing with the aftermath of this situation for the rest of the year/potentially years to come. And when people across campus were sent home, keep in mind Hall Directors live on-campus--they have no "escape." RAs were probably contractually obligated to remain on campus as well to assist their residents. My positive thoughts are with all the students, faculty, staff, and parents of VT...Such a sad day.

, for lack of a better emoticon. I'm watching Olberman right now and it's pretty frustrating how the monday evening quarterbacks are already out, and have been out for some time, pointing the finger here and there. Heartbreaking stuff.
