2) We're only 3 shows into the tour. They're off until Saturday night. Maybe there's some road practice happening. (Unlikely, but maybe.)

This isn't to say that I think come Saturday night we're going to get a bunch of tour debuts, but I think the overdramatic handwringing and triumphal I-told-you-soism is a little early. Give it a couple more shows.
The band has had bustouts and played good sets at festivals before. Hell, even jazzfest had a JTR bustout as a single song encore after like half a decade on the shelf. So, you can make the argument that those shows don’t count, but...

Also, this would the opposite of how they usually do it. They normally come out with the bustouts. Those slowly disappear as they remember why they don’t play them to begin with, until they are in full comfort cruise control. They do work at SPAC, Alpine, Gorge and call it a tour. Now we’re to believe the tour doesn’t actually start until Dave parks the bus at the Camden Aquarium. Got it.

Also, my posts wasn’t “overdramatic handwringing and triumphal I-told-you-soism,” it literally just made me laugh. Period.

I feel like this should have been pretty obvious.

Mark my words that as the amphitheatre shows start rolling out, there will be bust outs left and right.

I think we can safely assume that if that doesn’t happen, Jack will enthusiastically mark your words.

For at least the last 5 years, the only shows that really matter are the major 2 nights stands and gorge. Those are the only places that get setlist that are remotely close to what we want. Occasionally they’d sprinkle in a crazy good one nighter but that hasn’t happened in quite some time now. I don’t think the band saw these May dates as the start of the summer, because there’s almost a whole month off from the end of next week to Camden. I think they’ll come out totally different rotation of tunes and yeah by beginning of July you’ll know Roughly night in night out what the sets are going to be like, and the bust outs will stop heavily. But the first 2 weeks or so of June will be busy out city

Again, I believe a “bust out” to be a liberation or a reach deeper into the catalog. I think what you guys are talking about are “tour debuts.”

I was going by the past when making my post. Clearly, things are different this year. I was mistaken. I own it. My bad.

Last year at Mansfield was pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. They mixed in an early set LIOG and a ridiculous version of Typical with a good bit of Come Tomorrow (including a VITR breakout) and the right mix of crowd pleasers.

This tour it’s literally “list the 20 most overplayed songs in the catalog. That’s what we’re playing tonight.”

Listening to the 4/1 Italy show. Great versions of Proudest, Save Me, and DDTW. Rashawn and Tim's solos are excellent on Proudest and the song is played at an appropriate pace. Save Me should be a Buddy feature song - he sings a bit in this awesome outro. And Dave sounds incredible on this E1 DDTW.
