The funniest moment ever was SPAC 2010 during Cry Freedom. Boyd looked all passionate and focused up there playing his part and nothing was coming out of the speakers

I was at 5 those 6 shows (all the Ohio shows).

Absolutely fantastic sets. But even being there, it was obvious how bad Boyd's performances were.

I was at both Riverbend shows and 100% agree. On paper, those sets look fantastic, but I can hardly listen to the tapes.

It could have come from last night's show (see Jimi and Everyday). Tim even started playing noises in order to help cover it up, and Dave was (playfully) making fun of it for a good portion of one of those two songs (I think Jimi).

I actually like how him & Dave switch vocals on that. Haven't been doing that recently, I don't think.

Yeah, that's obviously something they do on purpose.

at what point does "enthusiasm" not cut it anymore? If he was slowly but surely getting better and climbing out of his funk that would be one thing. But he's stagnating. It's really a shame, but I think the band needs to address it soon.

It's just the way it is now. It's not really a funk. He's gonna be bad, skreeing, and muted on a lot of stuff. He's also going to be decent & every once in awhile he's going to be great. He always sounds passable at the show.

21 years into DMB's existence, I don't think they're going to be real concerned about him, unless he is 06/21/98 bad all the time.

Possibly I was being mildly sarcastic. I dunno.

Yes, I agree. A better band would stage a major intervention. He really is the weakest link. Has been for 65% of their history.

To what end though?

But Boyd has always been the least impressive member for me. I know he's probably the 2nd most notable musician in the band for general fans. Too bad he's a mediocrity.

It's great that the most entertaining figure/performer on stage is the weakest performer. He can definitely get away with it.

If this was Carter having major performance issues, it'd be a different story. That'd be a big problem.

And this is probably how the rest of them look at it.

The rest of the band probably just gets high and laughs at how Boyd looks like Jar Jar Binks.

Haven't listened to the tapes yet but was at both shows this weekend. I thought he was fantastic night 1. Seemed really energetic and into it. N2 as already discussed was definitely a little more rough. Also he was out meeting fans across at one of the campgrounds til almost 3am Friday night. So that is pretty cool.

Energetic, enthusiasm...meh.

Perhaps instead of meeting fans he should put a little rosin on the old bow and have a good old fashioned practice session.

it was Jimi. Where Boyd hits just a horrid "skree" note to open his solo. The rest of the solo, Dave kept throwing his arms up in the air after every few Boyd notes as if to say "fuck yeah, you didn't do that shit again!"

As bad as that one note was (and a moment or two in Everyday), he really wasn't bad this past weekend. He was more on than off. But damn is that Jimi note REALLY horrible.
