Well I have to say I was wrong to doubt the Indians, they are clearly on absolute fire right now. You just hope this hot streak didn't come too early and they run out of gas when they get to the postseason. Still waiting for The Cubs to get hot, I feel like it's going to happen soon and it could be right at the right time.

Really bad weekend for the Cubs, but I think there's fight left in them.

Yeah, the Cubs will win their division and will still be tough to deal with in the postseason.

Yup. It's a whole different beast. Plus the Dodgers have entered slight free-fall mode right now, possibly at the right time.

Complete game shutout is definitely a good way to win the 20th. I was worried after they left the bases loaded in the 2nd that the magic was running thin. Luckily we've got the Klubot.

I heard a stat last night that Cleveland has outscored opponents 134–32 over the 20 game streak. That's just insane.

Mitch mentioned over in DMBc the Piazza homer after 9/11. Awesome moment no doubt.

The Cubs had one too. Obviously not on the same scale as Piazza in NY - but pretty cool. When MLB took the break my dad said we really need to be at the first game back at Wrigley after 9/11. At the time the Cubs (overperforming in part to Sammy Sosa's 10 WAR season ) were in the middle of a race to try and win the division. It was a late September night, Wrigley was packed, and the Cubs were in contention. Sammy hit a homer in the bottom of the 1st and grabbed an american flag from the 1st base coach. Really cool moment.

Cubs lost and the division rapidly faded away of course but it was a special moment.

I do remember that too, Sosa with the flag.

That Piazza home run still gets me every time. I can't not get emotional watching that.

W firing a strike at Yankee Stadium was pretty cool too.

Playoffs are upon us. The one game playoff is a lot more exciting when your team doesn't have to play in the game I'm very nervous about the Yanks. By any measure they're better than the Twins and they should win. But it's baseball, and one game can easily swing either way. I just really love this young core and want to see them get a shot in the playoffs proper, even though beating Cleveland would obviously be a tall task.

2017:
NLC: Cubs (100 wins), Pirates, Cards, Brewers, Reds
NLE: Nats, Mets (WC), Braves, Marlins, Phillies
NLW: Dodgers, Giants (WC), Rockies, Dbacks, Padres

ALC: Indians, Tigers, Royals, Sox, Twins
ALE: Red Sox, Yankees (WC), Jays, O's, Rays
ALW: Mariners, Astros (WC), Rangers, Angels, A's

CY: Kershaw, Sale
MVP: Harper, Correa
ROY: Swanson, Benintendi

NLCS Cubs over Nats
ALCS: Boston over Seattle
WS: Cubs over Boston

Cubs Guesses:
Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber combine for 100+ HRs
Russell his 25 HRs and wins a gold glove
Contreras is the 2nd best catcher in the league after Buster Posey
Javy hits 18 HR and wins a GG at 2b despite only starting about 100 games at 2b
Almora has a sub .300 obp, but is over 2.5 WAR because of defense
Heyward hits better than last year, but still meh.
Montgomery ends up in the rotation by mid-May and finishes the year better than Lackey
Arrieta struggles with command all year but still puts up good #'s
Cubs trade for Marcus Stroman/Chris Archer in July
Cubs win the WS again and meet President Pence in the White House next summer

Only other note really
Fowler regresses from last year but still has a .360+ obp, Cards have a couple more starting pitching injuries and finish just under .500
Thought I'd re-visit this from back in March.

Got 3 of the 5 NL teams right, but whiffed badly on SF and NY. 5 of 6 for the AL.

Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber combine for 100+ HRs - they finished with 91.
Russell his 25 HRs and wins a gold glove - didn't happen
Contreras is the 2nd best catcher in the league after Buster Posey - spot on
Javy hits 18 HR and wins a GG at 2b despite only starting about 100 games at 2b - spot on, we'll see about the GG. He ended up playing 80 games at 2B, 73 at SS. If Russell didn't get hurt, it would have been much more 2B, and less SS.
Almora has a sub .300 obp, but is over 2.5 WAR because of defense - ended up having a nice year offensively, too
Heyward hits better than last year, but still meh. - yep
Montgomery ends up in the rotation by mid-May and finishes the year better than Lackey - somewhat accurate
Arrieta struggles with command all year but still puts up good #'s - yep
Cubs trade for Marcus Stroman/Chris Archer in July - Not them, but Quintana works.
Cubs win the WS again and meet President Pence in the White House next summer -

Only other note really
Fowler regresses from last year but still has a .360+ obp, Cards have a couple more starting pitching injuries and finish just under .500 - not too far off. Finished with a .363 OBP during a down year and the Cards missed the playoffs despite finishing a few games over .500
