Lord Huron

They're probably not big enough to have a devoted thread in here yet... but eff it. They will be soon enough.

They have a great sound, better than the similar mainstream bands of the day: Mumford and Lumineers.

Can't get enough of these guys lately. A nice little treat for Gorge-goers in 2013.

drummer, you're supposed to be binging on the Dead, why are you wasting your time on this nonsense?

(btw, I've never heard of this band, but you're Mumford/Lumineers comparison doesn't interest me much)

I wouldn't compare them to Mumford or Lumineers.

If anything it's like a poor mans Fleet Foxes (not nearly as good), but mostly interesting.

I KNOW I KNOW!!! More on that in the Dead thread....

and I don't really care for the Lumineers myself, nor do I listen to Mumford all that often anymore.....

Perhaps this would help:
If My Morning Jacket and Paul Simon had a baby, and Vampire Weekend and Band of Horses had a baby... and those two got together and (*hand guesture)... fucked!... then you get Lord Huron..

Listened to this yet again on the way in this morning.

I can't seem to pin-point a favorite part of the record for me, mostly because his vocals just stay with you and there's not a single weak point in the flow of this album. This has got to be one of the more complete collections of tracks I have heard in a LONG time.

However, I have come to a decision on what my favorite musical snippet of this entire record would be...
The marimba and "spaghetti-western" guitar accompaniment in the last minute of the waltzy 'Lullaby' might by the single most genius musical element on this thing. Especially as it leads into 'Brother' and the afro-beat rhythms that are the groundwork for that thing.

I can't listen to the former without sticking around for the other. Its like hearing a Jim James-anchored ballad followed by a sound ripped right out of Paul Simon's "Graceland" ...

Winter tour dates released last Friday...

If these guys are in your area I wouldn't think twice about going, already bought $13 tickets to the Dallas show in February.

(for those of us that didn't make it to the Gorge)

I guess I had never realized that these guys are a 'method' band

If you want to call it that.

I had NO idea that Ben Schneider was so fascinated and devoted to creating the scene for this record, that he actually made up a fictional author and even produced hard-copies of books that had supposedly 'inspired' all of these tracks. Pretty genius.

I'd buy every single one of these for my future kids if they actually existed.

All books by 'prominent' author George Ranger Johnson. These western tales from the 60s and 70s are also the inspiration to the western music videos they make.

All books on George's website, [Only registered users can see links.] , are marked 'out of print'

Those Kimmel performances are a little rough. Vocals don't quite sound right.

I saw these guys twice this summer in dive bars for 10 bucks. Told everyone in the office they are going to blow up.

They're on their way.

Yeah we've been sitting on $15 tickets since early October for a Feb 19th show. Can't wait.

Definitely some rough performances, hopefully this was just an off couple of songs due to nerves or something.

Agreed on the rough performance, sounded a bit off, almost a bit twangy if that makes sense....when they opened at the Gorge last summer they sounded fantastic. Unfortunately they're not coming anywhere close to Tampa on this tour although I've been debating a road trip to New Orleans to catch them.
