As I wait for the '83 Dave's, I'm listening to this hot early Brent era show. A new SBD source via Charlie Miller popped up last week.

I'm halfway through the 83 Dave's right now. Jerry's voice way up front in the mix. Everything is so fast compared to some of he shows I've been listening to lately.

Yeah, 83 was definitely fast playing.

So I guess the mix isnít particularly good. Those early 80ís cassette soundboards are tough, and they donít have a great track record with the releases. Itís pretty easy to come across random boards out there that sound better than their official releases.

Ugh. Disappointed to hear about the mix. Mine arrived just as I got to work. DP’s 20, the Boulder 81 show, had a spotty mix as well in some parts.

It's a hot show. The mix isn't awful, but the vocals are way upfront, like Mersh said, and it's pretty inconsistent. I jumped around a bit last night, I love Big Railroad Blues, so checked that one out and it is a smokin' version and the mix is pretty good. Then went to Throwing Stones and heard way too much of Bob's guitar and not much of Jerry's. Jerry's guitar being buried is the biggest problem with the mix, IMO. Anyway, love seeing 80's shows getting love

The latest Dave's is good but far from great, but it got me back into early 80's mode. Currently listening to this better one from the 30 Trips box set:

Manor Downs, Austin, TX (7/31/82)

Alabama Getaway >
Promised Land
Candyman
El Paso
Bird Song >
Little Red Rooster
Ramble on Rose
It's All Over Now
Brown Eyed Women >
Music Never Stopped
Deal

Scarlet Begonias >
Fire on the Mountain
Estimated Prophet >
Eyes of the World >
drums/space >
Uncle John's Band >
Truckin' >
Morning Dew >
One More Saturday Night

Anyone enjoying any local Days Between festivities? Wife and I are going to see a local JGB cover band (Tiger Rose) tonight. It works perfectly, too, because it starts at 7 pm. Most bar shows start too late for us

I just discovered that Jerry reads this Stephen King short story. Have always loved it.

So much great GD related music and bands out there, locally and nationally. I almost consider GD as much a genre of music at this point as just a band, if that makes sense. I mean, that Lettuce and friends JGB tribute for example, and bands like JRAD and sets like this one below from Lock'n. These guys are so good and weave more non Dead tunes into their sets now.

This is a great set with a great recording [Only registered users can see links.] for download or streaming.
