How many times does someone from the band need to say they'll be back next year before we stop wondering if they'll be back next year?

When we hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

Has anyone besides Boyd ever said they were touring in 2018?

Dave certainly doesn't say anything like "we're getting back to summer tours next year" when asked about the year off in the interview
Always is. So you took a rare summer off from the DMB. How was it?
It was great. I worked a bit earlier in the year with Tim. We did some stuff in Europe and a few shows in the States here, and a show in Mexico, so we had some fun. It’s a lighter craft to move around. I just felt like last year was 25 years and I should...maybe that’s why I’m grumpy — I didn’t go out on the road with the band this summer. I don’t think so. I had a great summer full of ups and downs, and I had more time with my family, which was really special. It was beautiful and I enjoyed it thoroughly, so hopefully I have some extra Wheaties in me when I take the larger ship on the road again.

Boyd is the only one that's been vocal about it. I think someone said they had met Jeff recently too and he mentioned it. Dave's last sentence at least alludes to the fact that they are definitely going to tour again, even though he doesn't specifically say in 2018.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume they will tour next year unless announced otherwise. DMB management made it pretty clear that it was going to be a "year off" they didn't say indefinite hiatus or anything like that. And they would have in order to sell more tickets if needed. I think they'll be back to normal next summer. I just hope to god they start writing some better material again. Another album of just duds and turds will really just be brutal.

I had a chance to see D&T for basically free this year and passed. If they pump another 12 duds into the rotation, it is likely that Gorge '16 will be my last DMB experience until the casino circuit. I love the band but I cannot watch that.

Which show? Most of those D&T shows this year were pretty awesome.

Yeah, that was easily the best one I saw this tour. Tim was on fire, some of the best solos I've heard him play on Nancies, Crush, and Corn Bread. Spoon and Dreaming Tree were awesome.
