Lake Street Dive

I think they need their own thread. They are really starting to break out. T-Bone Burnett picked them before they started to get their name spread around for this:

A concert inspired by the Coen Brothers' film, 'Inside Llewyn Davis,' which is set in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene, featuring live performances of the film's music, as well as songs from the early 1960s. Performers include the Avett Brothers, Joan Baez, Dave Rawlings Machine, Rhiannon Giddens, Lake Street Dive, Colin Meloy, The Milk Carton Kids, Marcus Mumford, Punch Brothers, Patti Smith, Willie Watson, Gillian Welch, and Jack White, as well as the star of the film Oscar Isaac.

A few vids:

nice. I'm a little late as well. Their first album came out in 2010.....but their second one just came out and that's what all the buzz is about. Almost all their shows on the current tour right now are sold out.

they are one of my absolute favorite bands - I've been listening to them for a little over a year and a half now (since the MJ cover was on youtube) and got to catch them live twice. their studio albums don't do them as much justice as their live shows do. They are exploding right now and it's really great to see. they are also some of the nicest, most down to earth musicians I've met.

So this is cool:

If you buy their live mp3 show from them on their site (which I did), you get the whole show in HD for free. FOR FREE. And all you do is hit a link to download both of them, no physical media to wait for, to pay shipping for....all for $9.99 *cough* what DMB show be doing*cough*

Ah, I only thought they had two out? The one from 2010 and this one that just came out. There are others?

There are 2 more (promises promises and in this episode ) - theyve been around for 10 years. Theyre nowhere near as good as the last 2 but theres some good songs.

I saw these guys play in a park this past summer in front of 50 people. I'm rooting for them, the lead singer was great.

Sweetness. I also love her voice. You can tell each one of them is very talented. The drummer as some mad rolls down, crushed or open, it doesn't matter. I love music like this that is just so raw and real.

The lead singer's phrasing reminds me of a cross between Susan Tedeschi and Norah Jones (when she sings upbeat material). Good stuff indeed!

Ah, yes, I thought she sounded like Norah a little as well on one of the slower songs off the latest album.

The lead singer sang the national anthem in episode 6 of season 2 of House of Cards when Kevin Spacey is throwing out the 1st pitch. I noticed that last night, not sure if that was mentioned before.

I don't believe it. A TDC music thread has actually turned me on to new music. This is good stuff.
