Good luck riding things out, I hope everything holds up as it's supposed to.

Was out of town last week so I just now got around to listening to Barnstar. I didn't get it at first, and I actually was tempted to bail towards the end of track 2, but I am glad I stuck it out. After that, the album gets real good, and it started to click with me. It went from boring and grating to original and interesting real quick. Good stuff!

Totally not Punch Brothers, but they’re fun and play some great tunes. That album is fun to throw on while driving.

Sorry guys, but I’m still way behind. I’m just not listening to very much music at all right now. I just haven’t been getting much out of new music lately, so I’m trying to listen to stuff that I know already moves me to try to get my passions back up again. I guess I’m just feeling a little burned out and need to slow down. I’m not going to stop contributing to this thread, but I might be skipping a few here and there, not because I’m not interested, but just because I’m in the wrong mindset.

Anyway, we’re a week behind now. Mja should be up, but I haven’t seen him in a while. If he doesn’t post by Monday I’ll post my next pick then. I already know what it’s going to be.

Alright, I’m up.

I thought about doing a couple of different favorites of mine from the World Music category, but ultimately I settled on:

The Uncluded- Hokey Fright

A completely left-field one-off from a few years ago, this album is a collaboration between offbeat folkie Kimya Dawson, best known for her work with the Moldy Peaches and the soundtrack to the movie Juno and New York underground rapper and producer Aesop Rock. It’s a combination that doesn’t make any sense on paper, and it makes for a listen that is full of surprises, but I think the end result is a really fun and interesting record. I hope you enjoy it.

Wow that’s out of left field. I’ll give it a listen tomorrow!

Such a weirdly appealing and memorable album. Thanks for recommending it to me all those years ago.

Listening now, on the second track and I'm bewildered....not necessarily in a bad way. I'm enjoying it, but I can't unhear Mike Doughty rapping over the Juno soundtrack. This one's definitely different, really good pick.

My ears perked up when he mentions the Susquehanna flood of 1972 during 'Teleprompters.' That was really out of nowhere. [Only registered users can see links.]

Digging this lots.

I’m so glad you like it. It’s such a strange record, but I find it so warm and funny. It’s such a unique album that I love recommending it to people (as you saw, I turned gweeps on to it a couple of years ago). That said, it’s the first pick in this thread that made me think, “People might really hate this.”

If you like his work on this, I definitely recommend checking out more of Aesop Rock. He’s a top five rapper in my book.

I'm determined to listen to it, but it may have to wait for the weekend. I have started twice and just wasn't in the mood either time.

Glad I waited to listen to this. Once I was in the mood for something different this connected with me much better. Listened to the whole thing and wanted more! Very unique and interesting, lyrically and musically. Both very talented musicians. Production could have been a tad better, but what can you do... I assume this was done in a sort of indie recording fashion so that's fine.

Good pick!

Hi everyone! It's been my turn for a crazy few work weeks. I am listening to this tomorrow, I appreciated the week off to not get too behind. But we need a new pick for next week. Blu - your pick right?

I think so, unless someone new wants a turn I can make a pick this weekend.

This week's album is A Minor Bird by Sucrť

Sucrť is husband and wife duo Stacy King (previously from Eisley) and Darren King (previously from Mutemath).

Their debut album from 2012 is a fanastic indie pop album. I love everything about it. It has really great percussion, strings, keys and vocals.

I hope you like it.

That album is in my iTunes because my wife has it, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to it. At the very least I definitely don’t remember it at all.

I'm caught up! I liked the last three quite a bit. All different stuff that I wouldn't have listened to. Folk/Hip-Hop is a trip. I'm not sure that Sucre will stay in my rotation, but I'm glad I listened, especially this morning when I had work stuff falling out.

I'm excited for you to listen to my pick for next week. I've heard it for the first time since my last pick which pushes off what was going to be my next pick. But it's an album that just reaches out and gives you a massive hug.
