I'm sure he hates it when he can't get the gas pump to stop on an exact dollar.

And Huff, I envy you. I can't wait for the day when I dictate my own hours and production.

I love my job.

I hate the numbers on the paycheck I get, though.

You might not believe this, but that is better than the reverse!

When I was younger I thought this advice was garbage.

It's not.

I guess -- it'd just be nice to reach a point of comfort where I can just afford to do things like go out to lunch at work or buy non-nosebleed seats to a ballgame without thinking.

There isn't a paycheck that goes by where I don't think to myself "Misery at work is worth never having to check the bank balance again." But, I always end up putting that aside because I do love my job so much.

I got in early with a small government contractor (employee #9). Because of it, I have a lot of involvement and a lot of freedom. Plus I'm doing what I love (web application development) so I don't have any real complaints right now.

Having previously been with Lockheed Martin, the small company atmosphere is a breath of fresh air. It can be frustrating at times, but overall it's been great.

I interviewed for an IT position several times at Lockheed Martin when I first got out of college and got down to the final interview, but never got the job. I was crushed. I have since moved on from that, and my new job works out great for my new family life, but I really wanted to work there.

I'd imagine there are other business units that were better than the one I was in. But I worked in operations, providing 24x7 support for various things. Nothing with researching or building any new technologies so when it came time to make cuts they were always looking at us. That cliche about "just being a number" really held true, and some of my bosses I wouldn't trust with a pair of scissors.

I wouldn't recommend Lockheed to anyone these days, but I'm sure experiences vary.
