"What?" I asked

"Another Dave Matthews song!" he said.

I do think this songs rarity contributes to why people like it as well. Not sure if it’s be welcomed if it was overplayed like Sister or some other songs. Only 4 times in the last 10 years. I’d certainly welcome the song live though. Interesting how some songs never get played. There’s songs from BW that have been played far more than this one, and this song is 8 years older than those.

Absolutely. Absence makes the heart grow fonder! (Except anything from Stand Up. Fuck that.)

Good post thrawn. I know it gets said a lot that Dave isn’t the best guitarist or technically proficient. So does he actually know he’s doing all that cool stuff? Or does he just hear what he likes and that’s how he plays it?

In-Depth Song Discussion #4---Sleep To Dream Her

I can almost guarantee that if Dave read Thrawn’s post his own mind would be blown.

Tweet it to Stefan. Not that Dave would ever see it, but I bet Stefan would have something to say about it.

i wonder how much of the mindblowing music theory that we're attributing to dave in this thread is due to ballard's input in the Everyday songwriting process

Every component of that is something that shows up in Dave's songwriting somewhere else - chromatic movement, weird key signatures, repeating but non-traditional patterns, etc. It's unique, but not uncharacteristic. I'd believe Ballard helped, but Ballard certainly didn't come up with it; Ballad's other production work isn't so weird.

gotta say, the toughest part about playing this song along with the recordings is ignoring carter.

(edit: i kinda get what he's doing, he just comes in at weird spots and it throws me off sometimes)

Actually now that I think about it, I think Dave said he was taking a dump. By the time he was done Popper had finished the solo.

I've always thought it was interesting Dave wasn't sure on the key. That little tidbit has always stuck with me.

Yeah, I've heard that story. It is interesting, especially since I think I would analyze that song as being in D, not G or A. (Though there isn't a single D chord in the song, but whatever: Dave Matthews.)

Yea, I remember this from a long time ago. Always a funny story.
