So I woke up this morning to find out that my car was stolen. It was parked in front of my apartment. I made a police report and notified my insurance company. I'm really depressed today .

In a nice suburban town in NJ. Even the police told me that they haven't seen an auto theft incident here in a long time.

That’s awful. No place is safe anymore.

I don’t understand why people steal cars. Has it ever worked out for anybody?

Needless to say, I'll be working from home for a little while, until this all gets sorted out.

The hospital wants me to pay upfront for a scan I'm supposed to have on Wednesday. And I have insurance now. Luckily my financial aid is still in place so they waived that for me.

What sort of insurance company/plan do you have? Is the facility in network and did you have to have the scan authorized?

(I work in the legal department for Cigna, so I’ve seen some shit, haha.)

It's an Anthem PPO plan. It's in network. My doctor said the scan was authorized. I just haven't met my deductible so they wanted my portion up front. It was like $995.

My rationale for that is always “I’ve got other claims pending, wait until you get the Anthem EOB and send me an invoice for the patient responsibility.”

I know with Cigna, an in-network facility or doctor can’t bill you first, it’s got to run through the insurance. I’d imagine Anthem’s contracts are the same. I just had retina surgery and my deductible for the year is 3,700 or some nonsense. I’m bending over waiting for all the bills.

It surprised me as well. When I worked for MetLife in-network providers were not allowed to charge upfront

I know when I went for surgery a few weeks back the pre-admission people were like “you’ve got $1900 left on your deductible, would you like to pay that now?” I feel bad that I laughed in the poor girl’s face.

Couldn't imagine a worse way tot start off the day. Fuck working from home, I would 100% pull a Liam Neeson and find the vile thief

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Yea, it's definitely a shitty situation. When the police came over my place to do the report, they were really surprised as well because there hasn't been an auto theft in this town in a long time. They are currently looking for my car, but I don't have high hopes. I live in a good safe town, but Camden is a 1/2 hour away, so I'm wondering if there is some operation going on down there. It could be a professional job or just some drug addict who needs money. Not sure, but hopefully I learn some new information soon.

This is my main issue with healthcare. I have no issue with paying in full for my services. It may take a while but I'll pay. I didn't want to go to the ER back in October but my doctor told me to.

I made a whopping $34,000 last year. Sorry that $900 (or $8000 for my ER visit) isn't something I can just throw down with no issues

Oh exactly. My retinal surgeon’s Office just sent my first bill (didn’t even account for the surgery yet,) and it was like “Pay Now: $600”

Yeah, okay. I’ll be in touch about a payment plan, friends.

doesn't help that it took 2 fucking months to get proof of insurance from my employer. I was told by my local HR that if I had any procedures I should just pay out of pocket and I'd be reimbursed.

The scan I had done this morning was $1000...
