House Of Cards - Netflix Original Series

a political thriller starring Kevin Spacey made exclusively for Netflix. streaming now. pilot directed by David Fincher

discuss.

spoiler rules:

there are 13 episodes so we'll give people 13 weeks to catch up with things in spoiler tags. anything discussing major plot points in episodes 2-13 put in spoiler tags. so, after April 26th no more spoiler tags for the first season. if you haven't caught up, don't come in

How should we deal with spoilers seeing as the whole thing is already out there?

How about everything is put in spoiler posts? For example:

Up until chapter 4:

Spoiler:
whatever you want to say here

eh, we can't have the whole thread in spoiler posts the entire time.

how about, since it debuted last week, let's put everything regarding episodes after the pilot in spoiler posts for 13 weeks since there are 13 episodes. so, after April 26th no more spoiler tags. we'll treat it like a normal cable show.

this show reminds me of Boss. but a lot better.

i feel like Fincher was kind of wasted in the pilot. anybody could have directed it with the minimalist way it's shot.

Frank Underwood talks like Boyd Crowder. Walton Goggins/Justified pulls it off better imo, it just seems unnatural in this show so far. but it might grow on me.

also, this show has yet another annoying overbearing wife.

I've only watched episode 1. It was ok, but I felt like the acting was a little stiff. Kevin Spacey's accent seems to come and go. I was really annoyed that his wife used his name in every sentence, it's just not normal to repeat your spouses name like that. I'll watch a few more eps to give it a shot though. The story was intriguing enough.

Did anyone else feel like that female reporter looked way too young to even have a job? I thought she was someone's kid in her first scene. But I'm older and female so you guys might not have noticed or cared.

the actress playing the reporter has been in a few things lately and they've all been 20-something year olds. which is how old she is.

and i agree about the name thing.

ever since i heard Albert Brooks' signifiers of bad writing and the main one was characters constantly saying someone's name when talking to them (which people don't actually do) it's always stuck out to me and has ruined quite a few movies/tv shows

I don't mind it during the first couple episodes when I'm still working to learn everyone's name, but Jesus Christ the name Frank doesn't need to be said every single time Claire talks in episode 7

My favourite part of Season 1 is the scene with Underwood and his old friend in the abandoned library during episode 8.

good lord, could they find a less overused and cliche song to have characters doing drugs too than Free Bird?
